We predict when The Social Reckoning will be available to stream at home.

Writer, director, and producer Aaron Sorkin is taking another deep dive into the mind of Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg in “The Social Reckoning,” which hits theaters on Friday, Oct. 9. The film has a big legacy to live up to after the success of its predecessor, “The Social Network,” but when will you be able to binge both films from the comfort of your coach? We make a prediction below.

Key Details:

  • Step down: Thus far, reviews indicate “The Social Reckoning” isn’t quite up to the level of “The Social Network.”
  • Big audience: The film will stream on the world’s largest streamer, Netflix.
  • Making changes?: Recent evidence could suggest Sony is changing up its theatrical windowing.

“The Social Reckoning” picks up a few years after the end of “The Social Network.” It follows Frances Haugen, a young engineer working for Facebook who enlists the help of Wall Street Journal reporter Jeff Horwitz to blow the whistle on the social network’s most closely guarded secrets.

Thus far, “The Social Reckoning” isn’t garnering quite the same level of appreciation from critics that its prequel did. The movie has a 64% on Rotten Tomatoes, and a score of 54 on Metacritic, which indicates “Mixed or Average” reviews.

When will ‘The Social Reckoning’ be available to stream?

“The Social Reckoning” is being distributed in the United States by Sony, which means it will stream on Netflix once it’s no longer in theaters and is ready to move off premium video-on-demand (PVOD) services that allow viewers to rent movies that are still in cinemas.

There was a time when a movie distributed by Sony was virtually guaranteed to spend at least four months in theaters before moving to streaming. But recent releases may signal a change; “28 Years Later: The Bone Temple” arrived on Netflix just 74 days after hitting theaters in January, and several Sony films in 2025 also received windows of less than 100 days.

We’ll predict that “The Social Reckoning” will stream on Netflix on Wednesday, Dec. 23, exactly 75 days after its initial release. That window will allow Sony and Netflix to take full advantage of the extra time most audience members have to watch TV and movies around the holidays.

…

The platform constantly updates its catalog, introducing fresh content alongside timeless classics and international hits. Netflix’s commitment to storytelling has also earned critical acclaim, with award-winning exclusives such as “Roma,” “Marriage Story,” “The Power of the Dog,” “Mank,” and “Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom.” In 2023, their animated film “Guillermo del Toro’s Pinocchio” won an Academy Award for Best Animated Feature, further solidifying Netflix’s reputation for high-quality content.

Recently, Netflix has expanded beyond standard movies and TV titles with the addition of video podcasts, and is also exploring a digital store that would offer third-party streamers within the app.

Netflix offers three plans – stream on 2 devices in HD with the “Standard with Ads” ($8.99) plan, on 2 devices in HD with the “Standard” ($19.99) plan, and 4 devices in up to 4K on the “Premium” ($26.99) plan.
