Stream a new season of ‘Star Trek’ and more this week
Amazon’s coming-of-age drama ‘The Summer I Turned Pretty’ and marquee live sports events are also lighting up this week’s schedule.
Summer can be a uniquely excellent time on the calendar for new streaming content — or uniquely dull. There are still some marquee scripted TV shows that debut throughout the summer months, but much of the most ballyhooed titles come from the unscripted world, and sports fans are hard-pressed to find something to watch that isn’t baseball, golf, or tennis at this time of year.
Are you loving the warmth of the summer and the programming that comes along with it? Or do you yearn for fall and the return of more scripted TV and big-name sports? Let us know in the comments below, and in the meantime, check out our list of great TV shows and movies premiering on top streamers this week.

The pageantry of baseball isn’t what it used to be, according to many fans, but there’s still something uniquely joyous about the Home Run Derby. It’s a wonderful way to put aside the stuffy feeling that baseball can engender in favor of pure fun — not to mention fireworks.

‘Her Last Broadcast: The Abduction of Jodi Huisentruit | Hulu
In 1995, rising TV news anchor Jodi Huisentruit disappeared from her Iowa apartment just before dawn, leaving behind signs of a violent abduction. This revival of the case was sparked by a 2022 “20/20” episode, which led to a tip from one of Jodi’s close friends. In this three-part docuseries, cameras exclusively embed with the case’s law enforcement and follow along as the lead detective chases the truth, resulting in the identification of new persons of interest in Jodi’s disappearance.

‘The Summer I Turned Pretty’ Season 3 premiere | Prime Video
Last season of “The Summer I Turned Pretty” was focused on the efforts of Isabel “Belly” Conklin and her friends to stop the sale of the Fisher family’s summer house, a place of intense meaning to all of them. In the midst of those efforts, Belly seemingly made her choice between the two Fisher brothers who yearn for her affections.
This season, the fallout of Belly’s decision will come home to roost. Conrad is devastated by her decision to move forward with Jeremiah, but considering their past, he’s unlikely to simply walk away from that decision and leave the pair to live happily ever after…

‘Star Trek: Strange New Worlds’ Season 3 premiere | Paramount+
This one is an unabashed favorite of mine, but it also happens to be a fantastic TV show. “Star Trek: Strange New Worlds” follows the adventures of the U.S.S. Enterprise under the command of Captain Christopher Pike as it attempts to seek out new worlds and new civilizations.
This season, the crew of the Enterprise will have to grapple with the Gorn, face fearsome Klingons, and continue to advance the mission of exploration whenever they get a chance. All the while, fellow Starfleet officer James Kirk will become more and more familiar with the Enterprise crew, as each member marches toward a destiny that has already been determined.
