Stream ‘Quarterback’ S2, a new ‘Love Island,’ more this week
‘It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia’ debuts new episodes, ‘Poker Face’ Season 2 wraps, and more to stream this week.
My sister once said something to me as a kid that has stayed with me through adulthood: summer vacation melts away like so many popsicles after the Fourth of July. The halcyon days are going fast, which is music to the ears of football fans and those not so crazy about the heat of the season.
As usual, however, there are some excellent TV and movie premieres to help you get over the disappointment that summer is fading this week. We’ve put together our traditional list of favorites to check out, and you can see our list of options to consider here.

‘Quarterback’ Season 2 premiere | Netflix
Thanks to the annual NFL Hall of Fame game, the 2025 NFL preseason starts on July 31. Fans are already licking their chops, however, and Netflix is rolling out a new season of its groundbreaking behind-the-scenes series “Quarterback” to help tide viewers over.
The show follows three NFL signal callers through the 2024-25 season: Joe Burrow of the Cincinnati Bengals, Jared Goff of the Detroit Lions, and Kirk Cousins of the Atlanta Falcons. Each of these quarterbacks had wildly different seasons last year, and Netflix cameras were there to capture it all as the drama unfolded.

‘It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia’ Season 17 premiere | FX, watch with a five-day free trial of DIRECTV
Can “Always Sunny” keep bringing the funny? It’s a hard enough thing to do for any TV show to maintain quality from season to season, and this one has been on since the early 2000s, yet it still manages to tickle its fans and keep slinging the jokes like so many beers at Paddy’s Pub.
Join Dennis, Mac, Charlie, Dee, and Frank for another season’s worth of japes and jests, including a dalliance with the cast of “Abbott Elementary” in a hysterical crossover. What other hijinks will the gang get up to this season? You’ll just have to watch for yourself and find out.

‘Poker Face’ Season 2 finale | Peacock
It doesn’t matter how good you are at being rottenly dishonest. If you try to pass a lie in front of Charlie Cale, she’s going to sniff you out. “Poker Face” follows the adventures of Cale, who travels the United States using her unique gift of always being able to tell when someone is lying to help victims of various crimes.
The series is a love letter to “Columbo,” and each week Cale has to tangle with a different case, a different liar who’s trying to pull a fast one of some kind. How will Season 2 send Charlie off into the sunset, and which glorious guest star will help bid farewell to the latest batch of episodes? Fans won’t want to miss this one.
Friday, July 11
‘The Wild Ones’ series premiere | Apple TV+
Featuring former Royal Marines Commando and expedition leader Aldo Kane, wildlife and camera trap expert Declan Burley, and ecological storyteller and wildlife cinematographer Vianet Djenguet, “The Wild Ones” blends high-stakes adventure with groundbreaking science and conservation.
Together, the trio travels to six countries — Malaysia, Mongolia, Armenia, Indonesia, Canada, and Gabon — capturing rare footage of elusive and endangered species, including the Malayan tiger, Gobi bear, Caucasian leopard, Javan rhino, North Atlantic right whale, and Western lowland gorilla.

‘Little Girl in the Woods’ original movie premiere | Lifetime, watch with a seven-day free trial of Philo
Summer is the perfect time for those who live in an area with large forests to beat the heat by retreating in the woods for a hike. The woods can be an idyllic, peaceful setting to shut out the humbugs of modern life and head back to one’s roots, but the dream setting can turn into a nightmare all too quickly.
While backpacking in the deep woods, a women’s bereavement support group discovers a teen girl being held captive in a cabin. Now they must band together to save her from her survivalist abductors, who are just as determined to keep her where she is as her rescuers are to help her.
