Spotify launches key update for kids and parents on all plans
The use of parent-managed Spotify accounts for kids under 13 is expanding to free users, the music streamer has announced.
As parents become increasingly vigilant about how (and how long) their children spend their time online, Spotify is now offering them an extra feeling of security as their kids explore the music streaming service. Subscribers to Spotify’s Premium Family service are likely already familiar with the managed accounts feature, which gives parents extra layers of control over what their children are listening to. Now, Spotify has announced that managed accounts are expanding to all accounts on the platform, from free to Premium plans.
Key Details:
- Welcome to the club: Managed accounts are expanding to all Spotify users in the United States.
- Safe and fun: Managed accounts let kids explore new artists and create playlists while parents set content boundaries.
- Phased rollout: The expansion of managed accounts to Spotify free tiers first took place internationally.

Managed accounts have now expanded to all free and Premium Spotify listeners in the United States, the United Kingdom, Australia, France, Germany, and the Netherlands. They are designed for listeners 13 and under, and allow parents to know their kids are exploring music in an age-appropriate environment.
A managed account on Spotify allows parents to adjust controls on what kind of content they want their children to be able to access, including the ability to disable playback of specific tracks and artists. Managed Spotify accounts are also not searchable or discoverable by others, and young listeners do not have the ability to use Spotify’s messaging system or to make in-app purchases.
Young listeners on managed accounts can still explore new artists, stream soundtracks or create their own playlists, enjoy personalized recommendations, and even enjoy their own Spotify Wrapped at the end of each year.
To set up a managed account, all parents need to do is open Spotify on their mobile device, tap the profile icon, and then locate Add account. Next, tap Create a managed account and follow the on-screen prompts to create an account for your child.
Having a Spotify account is an easy way to access hundreds of millions of songs, podcast episodes, and more. Kids love the platform as much as parents, and now all Spotify users in the United States can access managed accounts so parents know their kids are exploring the app safely.
