Spotify Review
Spotify is one of the world’s leading audio streaming platforms, known for its huge catalog of over 100 million tracks, 7 million podcasts, and 700,000 audiobooks. It brings music, talk, and storytelling together in one place, with content that can be searched and streamed anytime.
What really stands out is how it personalizes what gets played next. Algorithm-driven recommendations power playlists like “Discover Weekly,” built around listening habits and updated regularly with new finds.
It also runs on a freemium model, with a massive user base that can either listen for free with ads or upgrade to Premium plans for added features like ad-free playback, offline listening, and audiobook hours.
Content
Music, podcasts, and original shows make up a large audio catalog with over 100 million tracks and a wide range of content. The music library spans global chart hits, niche genres, and deep cuts, encompassing pop, hip-hop, rock, electronic, jazz, classical, and regional styles from around the world.
Podcasts add everything from news and comedy to true crime, sports, and education. Original and exclusive shows bring platform-only series and major creator deals into the mix. That includes scripted audio productions, video podcasts, and well-known exclusives, alongside independent content and mainstream releases.
100 million+ songs
Over 100 million tracks span nearly every genre, from pop, rock, hip-hop, and electronic to country, jazz, folk, and niche styles like shoegaze, Viking metal, Afrobeat, and Latin pop. The catalog also pulls in global sounds, from Japanese pop and European metal to regional African music.
Beyond albums and singles, the library features live recordings, remixes, podcasts, and audiobooks. They are all organized with a detailed classification that groups music into ultra-specific styles like “Sad Rap” or “Deep Techno” for more targeted browsing.
Editorial playlists such as “RapCaviar” and “Rock This,” algorithm-driven picks like “Discover Weekly” and “Release Radar,” and Daily Mixes that blend familiar and new tracks all shape what appears next. Billions of user-created playlists stretch the catalog far beyond its core collection.
Original and exclusive content is built mainly around podcasts, with several of the biggest audio shows available only on the platform. That includes major titles like “The Joe Rogan Experience,” “Call Her Daddy,” “Anything Goes with Emma Chamberlain,” and “The Comment Section.”
Spotify also produces original series made specifically for its service, including scripted shows like “Batman Unburied” and “Case 63.” Spotify Singles adds exclusive recordings, live performances, and covers from artists that are only available on the platform.
Select podcasts are also available in video format, giving certain exclusive shows both audio and visual versions in the app.
Features
Spotify’s features include podcasts, music, audiobooks, and social listening, all in one place built for streaming and discovery. Podcasts span true crime, news, comedy, sports, and education, with an easy way to search and jump into episodes.
One of the standout features is Spotify Jam, where up to 32 people can join the same session, sync playback instantly, and build a shared queue together in real time.
Offline downloads, multi-device support, and access across mobile, desktop, and web make it easy to take listening anywhere. Millions of songs, podcasts, and audiobooks sit side by side, with Premium adding ad-free playback and audiobook listening hours in select regions.
Simultaneous Streams
With a standard Premium account, streaming is limited to one device at a time. Upgrade to Duo or Family, and that opens things up. Duo supports two separate accounts in the same household, and Family expands that to up to six. Everyone gets their own profile, so playlists, recommendations, and playback stay fully separate even when listening at the same time.
Then there’s the Spotify Jam feature, which takes group listening to another level. Up to 32 people can join a single session and sync to the same track or playlist in real time. One person starts the Jam, others jump in instantly, and everyone can add songs to the queue as the shared playlist builds together.
Profiles
The Premium Family includes up to six separate Premium accounts for people living in the same household. Everyone gets their own profile with personalized playlists, recommendations, listening history, and ad-free streaming, so there’s no fighting over playlists or messing up someone else’s algorithm.
The plan also comes with access to the Spotify Kids app for younger listeners, plus a shared “Family Mix” playlist filled with music the whole household might enjoy.
Offline Downloads
Offline downloads let you take music and podcasts anywhere without an internet connection.
With Premium, full albums, playlists, and podcasts can be saved directly to a device for offline playback. Free accounts are limited to podcast downloads only. Up to 10,000 tracks can be downloaded to each of up to five devices, giving plenty of space for large libraries on the go.
An internet connection is still needed at least once every 30 days to keep downloads active, which also helps Spotify collect play data for artist compensation.
One of the platform’s biggest highlights is its huge podcast library, packed with everything from true crime and comedy to sports, business, politics, and self-improvement. Hit shows like The Joe Rogan Experience, Call Her Daddy, Huberman Lab, and The Daily are joined by thousands of smaller creators and exclusive series.
Both audio and video podcasts are available across mobile, desktop, tablets, and the web player. Features include offline downloads, personalized recommendations, podcast charts, episode notifications, and an “In this episode” section that highlights songs, guests, and topics mentioned during the show. Podcasts are available on both Free and Premium plans, though free listening may include ads.
It’s audiobook library includes more than 700,000 titles spanning thrillers, romance, memoirs, fantasy, business, biographies, and classic literature, along with plenty of bestselling releases and popular authors. Premium Individual subscribers get 15 hours of monthly listening from Spotify’s included catalog of more than 300,000 audiobooks. That same perk is available only to the plan manager on Premium Family and Duo plans. Other Family and Duo members, as well as Premium Student subscribers, do not get monthly audiobook hours.
Parental Controls
Parental controls are included with the Premium Family plan, giving parents a few ways to create a safer listening experience for kids and younger teens. The plan manager can filter explicit content, block specific songs or artists, and turn off music videos and Canvas visuals.
For children under 13, managed accounts offer a more locked-down experience focused on music only, with podcasts and audiobooks hidden from view. These accounts are also private and non-discoverable. The Family plan also includes access to the Spotify Kids app, which features kid-friendly music and audio content in a separate, simplified app designed specifically for younger listeners.
International Access
Spotify is available in more than 180 markets worldwide, so listening can continue while traveling.
Premium subscribers can stream music, podcasts, and playlists abroad without time limits, as long as an internet connection is available. Free users get up to 14 days of international streaming before needing to return to their home country or update account settings.
Music availability can shift from region to region due to licensing differences, so the catalog may not always match what is available at home. For long-term moves, the account country can be updated once the new location is set and a local payment method is used.
