Max has a couple of big-name shows returning this month, but which other services do you need to have — and which ones can you let go?
Stacking streaming subscriptions is only getting more and more expensive. Adding a new service to the equation can be a non-trivial expense, especially if you’re already spending $30 or $40 per month on all your already existing subscriptions. With that in mind, our experts have scoured the list of new TV shows and movie premieres coming to top streamers this month to see what the best releases will be.
Check out our list of the streamers that are indispensable in the month of April, and those that you can probably afford to skip for a month!

Streamers to keep in April 2025
Max

There’s far too much happening on Max in April 2025 to let the streamer go. To begin with, ongoing series like the final season of “The Righteous Gemstones” will finish up in April, and Season 3 of the acclaimed dark comedy “The White Lotus” will air on Sunday, April 6. In addition, the Bleacher Report Sports hub will offer key NBA and NHL games as those leagues march toward the end of their regular seasons.
But the return of two award-winning, marquee shows in April is what makes the streamer a true must-have for the month. First, the comedy series “Hacks” — which won three Emmys for its third season, including Best Comedy Series — returns for a fourth season on April 10. The show stars Jean Smart as a legendary stand-up comedian who has battled her way back to stardom, thanks to the significant contributions from a formerly canceled comedy writer played by Hannah Einbinder.

The hits keep on coming for HBO and Max when the long-awaited second season of dystopian zombie drama “The Last of Us” premieres on April 13. Set in a future where a fungal infection has devastated humanity, “The Last of Us” Season 2 will take place five years after Season 1, and will see Joel (Pedro Pascal) grappling with the consequences of his decision not to sacrifice Ellie (Bella Ramsey) in hopes of finding a cure to the outbreak.
Disney+

In addition to Max, we also think that Disney+ is a must-have for the month of April, thanks to a number of significant genre highlights. Let’s start with the conclusion of “Daredevil: Born Again” Season 1. Matt Murdock (Charlie Cox) has been grappling with his role in the world after the death of his best friend and the rise of Wilson Fisk (Vincent D’Onofrio) to become mayor of New York City. Fisk, too, is battling his inner demons, trying to leave a life of violent crime behind him while being continuously lured back into the darkness. Deborah Ann Woll returns as Karen Page, and Elden Henson (Foggy Nelson), and Jon Bernthal (Frank Castle/the Punisher) also appear.
While the conclusion of that Marvel series is a good reason to stay signed up for Disney+, there are two other major reasons to make sure you don’t miss out on the streamer this month. Perhaps most excitingly, Star Wars fans will welcome back the critically acclaimed “Andor,” for a second season, which will debut on April 22. Season 2 will take place in the years leading up to the movie “Rogue One,” and follow characters like Cassian Andor (Diego Luna), Mon Mothma (Genevieve O’Reilly), Luthen Rael (Stellan Skarsgard), and Saw Gerrera (Forest Whitaker) as they try to fight against the scourge of the despotic Empire, all while the Imperials try to tighten their net.

Whovians will also need to have their Disney+ subscription loaded and their T.A.R.D.I.S. charged this month, as the “second season” of “Doctor Who” featuring Ncuti Gatwa will premiere on April 12. The Doctor and his latest companion will once again hurtle through space and time on a series of adventures, each more wonderous than the last.

Streamers you can cancel in April 2025
Paramount+
Paramount+’s release list in April is pretty slim. Elton John fans might want the service for his April 6 special with Brandi Carlile, but that will only be available on the Paramount+ with SHOWTIME tier, since it’s airing on CBS. There are no Taylor Sheridan titles premiering on Paramount+ in the month of April, and we think you can safely skip a subscription this month and save a little.
Paramount Plus
Paramount+ is a subscription video streaming service that includes on-demand access to 40,000+ TV show episodes from BET, CBS, Comedy Central, MTV, Nickelodeon, Nick Jr., and more. Get free access with a Walmart+ subscription.
Paramount+ includes “1883,” “Tulsa King,” “Star Trek: Discovery,” “SpongeBob SquarePants,” and “PAW Patrol.” Subscribers can watch the NFL, college football, The Masters, college basketball, UEFA Champions League, UEFA Europa League, Serie A, and NWSL. The service also offers the option to watch your live CBS affiliate. The upgraded ad-free package includes premium movies and shows from Showtime.
Apple TV+
Now that “Severance” Season 2 is over, you can probably let go of Apple TV+ for a month. Other big-name titles like “Slow Horses” and “Ted Lasso” are months away from releasing new seasons at the earliest, and you can save an even $10 by canceling Apple TV+ for a month and moving on to something else.
Apple TV
Apple TV (formerly known as Apple TV+) is a subscription video streaming service for $14.99 per month, offering a growing slate of original series, films, documentaries, and specials. Unlike other platforms that combine licensed titles with originals, Apple TV is built entirely around exclusive programming, making it the home of critically acclaimed hits such as “Ted Lasso,” “Severance,” “The Morning Show,” and “Silo.” Its lineup continues to expand with award-winning dramas, comedies, family-friendly shows, and blockbuster original films like “CODA,” which won the Academy Award for Best Picture.
