When will ‘Mission: Impossible - The Final Reckoning’ stream?
The movie features Tom Cruise as Ethan Hunt for one last globe-trotting adventure, and we’ll give our prediction on when it’ll hit streaming here.
Ethan Hunt is back for one last ride. “Mission: Impossible - The Final Reckoning” makes its official theatrical bow on Friday, May 23, just in time for Memorial Day weekend. The movie is due to be the last installment in the storied “Mission: Impossible” franchise, and we’ll give our expert prediction on when you’ll be able to stream it at home here.
Key Details:
- A hit with fans: Critics and preview audiences are liking the new “Mission: Impossible” sequel.
- Climb the mountain: The movie will stream on Paramount+ when it leaves theaters.
- Not exactly a Cruise: It will probably be several months before “M:I - The Final Reckoning” streams.
Watch a trailer for ‘Mission: Impossible - The Final Reckoning’
“Mission: Impossible - The Final Reckoning” sees Ethan Hunt and the IMF team head out to stop another global threat. An AI known as The Entity is threatening to launch nuclear war, and a former agent of Entity named Gabriel wants to take control of the artificial intelligence for his own purpose. If they can’t stop Gabriel and Entity in time, there may be no tomorrow.
The film hasn’t gotten quite as high marks as past “Mission: Impossible movies, but it’s still well worth your time, according to critics. It currently sports an 80% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, and 93% of audiences who have watched also give it a thumbs-up.
When will ‘Mission: Impossible - The Final Reckoning’ stream at home?
There’s good news and bad news when it comes to the latest “Mission: Impossible” movie and its streaming home. The good news is that it’s very easy to predict which streamer will get the movie: Paramount+ will house “M:I - The Final Reckoning” when it’s released to streaming, and also currently offers every other movie in the franchise on-demand.
The bad news is I think fans will be in for a long wait before the new “M:I” streams on Paramount+. Mostly, that’s because of Tom Cruise’s involvement. Cruise has long been a proponent of giving movies an extra-long theatrical release window, espousing a philosophy that theaters are where movies like his are meant to be seen.
That led to a wait of over 200 days for “Top Gun: Maverick,” and “Mission: Impossible - Dead Reckoning” wasn’t released until 197 days after first debuting in theaters. There’s no reason to think the last movie in the franchise will take any less time to arrive on streaming.
I think that “Mission: Impossible - The Final Reckoning” will be available to stream on Paramount+ as of Tuesday, Dec. 9 — 200 days from its initial release. That would also allow the movie to take advantage of holiday viewing windows. It’s a long wait, but at least fans can binge the rest of the franchise on Paramount+ while they bide their time.
