Upgrades on the way for discovery+ app after tech evolution
The discovery+ app is about to become much more user friendly.
There are a lot of ways for streaming providers to upgrade their apps for customers. New user interfaces can transform a service in the eyes of users, but often there are deeper changes going on behind-the-scenes. The discovery+ app has announced it will undergo a major transformation soon, moving to the same technical platform and infrastructure that powers Warner Bros. Discovery’s flagship streaming service Max.
Key Details:
- discovery+ is migrating to a new in-house tech stack.
- The streamer says the move will allow for easier use and a more personalized experience for customers.
- Max also recently made some changes to its user experience.
WBD announced that discovery+ is migrating to a different in-house tech stack, aligning it more closely with Max by establishing a unified code baseline across the company’s streaming apps.
“This is a huge win, not only for our internal teams but also for our subscribers,” WBD CTO Avi Saxena said. “We’ve been driving rapid innovation across our platforms, and now, all of our streaming products will benefit from a richer feature set. A singular unified platform has been central to our technology strategy, and this marks a major milestone in that journey.”
For customers, the move means that the discovery+ app will feature a more refined homepage and better navigation. It will also bring enhanced content recommendations, with more personalized offerings that will ideally keep viewers engaged for longer watching sessions.
Viewers will also be able to sign into the discovery+ app with a QR code, making it easier to get into their accounts. In addition, in-player discovery will improve, letting customers more easily switch between watching an episode and browsing new content recommendations.
Finally, the content details on the discovery+ mobile app will now include a Share button. This will create a link that users can easily share on social media or via text, letting them recommend the title they’re currently loving to family and friends.
WBD has been hard at work improving its streaming apps of late. Max’s user interface got a refresh in late January, once again in the name of boosting engagement and helping viewers find tailored content recommendations more easily.
