‘The Summer I Turned Pretty’ to end with a movie
The series was due to end with its third season, but fans will get to say another final farewell to their favorite characters.
“The Summer I Turned Pretty” released the final episodes of its third season on Wednesday. For fans of the show, it was a bittersweet moment; they’ve been eagerly anticipating the ending of the season, but Season 3 was intended to be the last for the series. Those plans have officially changed, as Prime Video has announced it will create an original movie to wrap up the story of Belly and her love life conclusively.
Key Details:
- Ending where it started: Original author Jenny Han will direct the movie for Prime Video.
- Gone Fishing: At the end of Season 3, Belly finally seems to make her choice among the Fisher brothers.
- Locked down: Story details for the film are being held tightly under wraps.
“The Summer I Turned Pretty” movie will be directed by Jenny Han, the original writer of the novel series that turned into the TV show. Han will also serve as writer for the film along with Sarah Kucserka; Han also served as one of the showrunners for the series, so she’s been involved essentially every step of the way.
Amazon revealed almost no other details about the movie, such as a release window or the plot. It’s likely entering the early pre-production stage, so viewers shouldn’t expect to see it premiere until late 2026 or 2027 at the earliest.
“The Summer I Turned Pretty” stars Lola Tung as Isabel “Belly” Conklin, a young woman who has spent Season 3 agonizing over her decision to marry Jeremiah Fisher, or whether she still has feelings for his brother Conrad. At the end of the season, Conrad flies to Paris to surprise Belly for her birthday, and seemingly end up together for their own happily ever after.
What ground will the movie explore with the fates of these characters seemingly sealed? It’s hard to say for now, but knowing Han, there will be plenty of drama, torrid romance, and maybe even some fun under the sun at Cousins Beach.
