What are the 5 Best Shows and Movies Leaving Hulu in December 2023?
“An Education” | Sunday, Dec. 31
“Maestro” leading lady Carey Mulligan stars in the Oscar-nominated coming-of-age drama as Jenny, a 16-year-old schoolgirl whose life is upended as she’s pursued by unsuitable suitor David (Peter Sarsgaard), a 30-something teacher who introduces her to the glamorous life, threatening her safety and sense of being along the way. Alfred Molina, Rosamund Pike, Dominic Cooper, Olivia Williams, Emma Thompson, Sally Hawkins, Ellie Kendrick, Matthew Beard, and Cara Seymour make up the supporting cast of the drama.

“Elf” | Sunday, Dec. 31
Hulu will lose several Christmas titles when the clock strikes midnight and the ball drops, but the most heartbreaking might be the semi-recent feel-gooder, which celebrates its 20th anniversary this year. Will Ferrell plays Buddy, a human raised by Santa’s elves, who learns about his origins and heads to New York City to meet his biological father (James Caan), a publishing executive on the Naughty List. The unlikely duo lead an all-star ensemble led by Zooey Deschanel, Daniel Tay, Mary Steenburgen, Edward Asner, Bob Newhart, Peter Dinklage, Andy Richter, Amy Sedaris, and more.

“Into The Woods” | Sunday, Dec. 31
It’s time to leave the woods, and fittingly enough, [Disney]’s 2014 adaptation of the Tony-winning musical makes its exit at the stroke of midnight. Meryl Streep, Emily Blunt, James Corden, Anna Kendrick, Chris Pine, Tracey Ullman, Christine Baranski, Lilla Crawford, Daniel Huttlestone, MacKenzie Mauzy, Billy Magnussen, and more take on the Sondheimian challenge as a childless couple desperate for a baby set out to collect a cow, a cape, some hair, and a slipper to reverse the curse placed on them by a vengeful witch, crossing paths with fairy tale friends and foes (and the butterfly effect of all of their actions) along the way. Ever after, journey over.

“The Rocky Horror Picture Show ” | Sunday, Dec. 31
“The Rocky Horror Picture Show” was once the stuff of nightmares, but history has been kind to the cult classic, correctly recognizing the “Rocky Horror Show” adaptation as one of the best movie musicals of all time. Head out with Brad and Janet to the Frankenstein Place, where, if you’ve timed your “Time Warp” correctly ahead of the film’s Dec. 31 removal, mad scientist/sweet tranvestite Dr. Frank N. Furter just might have enough time to make you a man. Tim Curry, Susan Sarandon, Barry Bostwick, Richard O’Brien, Patricia Quinn, Little Nell, Jonathan Adams, Peter Hinwood, Meat Loaf, and Charles Gray star.

“The Matrix” | Sunday, Dec. 31
Bad news comes in threes, and the first three films in the Wachowskis’ classic sci-fi trilogy, “The Matrix,” “The Matrix Reloaded,” and “The Matrix Revolutions” will all leave Hulu at the end of the month. Start with 1999’s flagship film, which stars Keanu Reeves as Thomas Anderson, a.k.a. Neo, a computer programmer-hacker who discovers humanity is trapped inside a simulated reality that intelligent machines have created to use their bodies as an energy source and joins a rebellion with other people who have been freed. Laurence Fishburne, Carrie-Anne Moss, Hugo Weaving, and Joe Pantoliano co-star in the culture-shifter.
