Spring is in the air, which means wedding season is just around the corner. And if the Prime Video original movie “You’re Cordially Invited” is any indication - people are ready. I love a good wedding rom-com, and this one delivers. How could it not with Reese Witherspoon and Will Ferrell leading the way? So, naturally, it got me thinking about all the other great wedding rom-coms out there. From time-loop wedding ceremonies to disastrous bachelorette parties, here are my picks for the top 7 wedding rom-coms you can stream right now to get you in the right mood for wedding season!

Top 7 wedding rom-com movies you can stream right now

No. 7: ‘You’re Cordially Invited’ (2025) | Prime Video

Coming in at No. 7 on the list of top wedding rom-coms is “You’re Cordially Invited.” This one’s got everything you want in a wedding comedy—big personalities, over-the-top wedding chaos, and a little unexpected romance along the way. Will Ferrell plays Jim, a single dad just trying to pull off the perfect wedding for his daughter. Reese Witherspoon is Margot, a high-powered TV producer planning her sister’s perfect wedding. The problem? Thanks to a massive booking mistake, both of their events are set to happen at the same island resort on the exact same weekend. What starts as a full-blown turf war of pranks, sabotage, and ridiculous one-upmanship takes a turn when Jim and Margot start catching feelings. With Ferrell and Witherspoon leading the way, this one delivers plenty of laughs, some heartfelt moments, and all the wedding day disasters you could ask for.

You’re Cordially Invited

When two weddings are accidentally booked on the same day at the same venue, each bridal party is challenged with preserving their family’s special moment while making the most of the unanticipated tight quarters. In a hilarious battle of determination and grit, the father of the bride and sister of the other bride chaotically go head-to-head as they stop at nothing to uphold an unforgettable celebration for their loved ones.

No. 6: ‘Father of the Bride’ (1991) | Disney+

Coming in at No. 6 is the classic “Father of the Bride,” starring Steve Martin as George Banks, the ultimate overprotective dad. When his daughter Annie (Kimberly Williams-Paisley) announces her engagement, George spirals into a hilarious mix of denial, sticker shock, and full-blown wedding planning chaos. Between dealing with his future in-laws, navigating the endless (and expensive) demands of wedding prep, and trying to accept that his little girl is all grown up, George finds himself in way over his head. Throw in Martin Short as the eccentric wedding planner Franck, and you’ve got a movie packed with heart, humor, and plenty of relatable family moments. First released in 1991, this one still holds up as one of the best - and funniest - wedding movies of all time.

Father of the Bride

December 20, 1991

George Banks is an ordinary, middle-class man whose 22 year-old daughter Annie has decided to marry a man from an upper-class family, but George can’t think of what life would be like without his daughter. His wife tries to make him happy for Annie, but when the wedding takes place at their home and a foreign wedding planner takes over the ceremony, he becomes slightly insane.

No. 5: ‘Crazy Rich Asians’ (2018) | Max

Coming in at No. 5 is “Crazy Rich Asians.” I absolutely love this movie, not just because it’s a beautifully made rom-com, but also because it introduces you to a culture we don’t always see in American film and TV. It follows Rachel Chu (Constance Wu), a Chinese-American professor who travels to Singapore with her boyfriend Nick (Henry Golding) for a wedding—only to discover that he comes from one of the richest and most powerful families in Asia. What follows is a whirlwind of luxury, family drama, and romance as Rachel navigates Nick’s high-society world, dealing with disapproving relatives, social climbers, and one very intimidating mother-in-law (Michelle Yeoh).

And I have to mention the wedding scene - it’s one of the most gorgeous, moving sequences I’ve ever seen. The cinematography, the music, the set design, the emotional weight of the moment… it’s just perfection. Whenever I need a dose of inspiration in my own writing, I skip straight to that part, and it works every time. A must-watch for wedding rom-com fans.

An American-born Chinese economics professor accompanies her boyfriend to Singapore for his best friend’s wedding, only to get thrust into the lives of Asia’s rich and famous.

No. 4: ‘The Proposal’ (2009) | Hulu

Coming in at No. 4 is “The Proposal,” and now we’re getting into the true classics. This movie brings out the best in Sandra Bullock and Ryan Reynolds, with their perfect mix of charm, chemistry, and comedic timing. Bullock plays Margaret, a tough-as-nails book editor who’s about to be deported back to Canada - unless she can convince her assistant, Andrew (Reynolds), to marry her. What starts as a transactional engagement quickly spirals into a full-blown adventure when they head to Andrew’s hometown in Alaska, where his eccentric family - led by the scene-stealing Betty White - puts their relationship to the test. It’s laugh-out-loud funny, heartfelt, and exactly what you want in a wedding (or in this case, engagement) movie. From Margaret’s city-girl struggles in small-town Alaska to Betty White’s unforgettable match-making shenanigans, “The Proposal” is one of those rom-coms that just never gets old.

When she learns she’s in danger of losing her visa status and being deported, overbearing book editor Margaret Tate forces her put-upon assistant, Andrew Paxton, to marry her.

No. 3: ‘Palm Springs’ (2020) | Hulu

It’s really hard to come up with a fresh take on a wedding movie, but “Palm Springs” has one of the best twists on the genre in years. Andy Samberg and Cristin Milioti play two strangers who meet at a wedding in Palm Springs, only to get stuck in a time loop, reliving the same chaotic day over and over again. What starts as a nightmare quickly turns into something a lot more fun (and a little existential), as they embrace their weird new reality together. This movie was my favorite of the year and brought some much-needed laughs and love to an otherwise dark 2020. It’s funny, imaginative, well-acted, and just a lot of fun. The chemistry between Samberg and Milioti makes every moment work, and the mix of absurd humor and real emotion is perfect. If you somehow missed it, now’s the time to fix that.

When carefree Nyles and reluctant maid of honor Sarah have a chance encounter at a Palm Springs wedding, things get complicated when they find themselves unable to escape the venue, themselves, or each other.

No. 2: ‘Bridesmaids’ (2011) | Prime Video

Coming in at No. 2 is “Bridesmaids,” which isn’t just one of the best wedding rom-coms - it’s one of my favorite movies of all time. In fact, it landed at No. 3 on my list of top Judd Apatow movies to stream. It’s funny, raunchy, and surprisingly heartfelt, with excellent performances from Kristen Wiig, Maya Rudolph, Rose Byrne, and Chris O’Dowd. Plus, it was a breakout moment for Melissa McCarthy, who steals every scene she’s in.

Wiig stars as Annie, a struggling baker who’s thrilled (and slightly panicked) when her best friend Lillian (Rudolph) asks her to be maid of honor. But things quickly spiral as she clashes with Lillian’s wealthy new friend Helen (Byrne), who seems determined to take over the wedding. The movie is packed with iconic moments - the infamous dress-fitting scene, the disastrous flight to Vegas, and McCarthy’s unforgettable performance as the wild-card bridesmaid. But beyond the chaos, “Bridesmaids” also nails the emotional core of friendship, jealousy, and figuring out your life when it feels like everyone else has it together. An all-time great.

No. 1: ‘Wedding Crashers’ (2005) | Rent with Prime Video

There’s great wedding comedy movies, and then there’s “Wedding Crashers.” This movie is one of the few non-Judd Apatow films that inspired me to want to become a screenwriter. It’s got two all-time performances from Owen Wilson and Vince Vaughn, who play best friends and professional wedding crashers, sneaking into high-end receptions for free drinks, good food, and a shot at meeting women. But when John (Wilson) unexpectedly falls for Claire (Rachel McAdams) at a high-profile political wedding, the game changes - leading to one of the best rom-com romances of all time.

This is a perfect movie in my opinion. It’s laugh-out-loud funny, endlessly quotable, and somehow still manages to pack an emotional punch. When “Sparks” by Coldplay starts playing as John and Claire listen outside each other’s doors, both too nervous to make a move… my beating heart. Yeah, I love this movie.

Wedding Crashers

July 13, 2005

John and his buddy Jeremy are emotional criminals who know how to use a woman’s hopes and dreams for their own carnal gain. Their modus operandi: crashing weddings. Normally, they meet guests who want to toast the romantic day with a random hook-up. But when John meets Claire, he discovers what true love – and heartache – feels like.
