Here are some alternatives to Netflix after its price increase
We’ve assembled a list of alternative services to try now that Netflix is hiking subscription rates once again.
They’ve done it again. Late Thursday, Netflix rolled out a new wave of price increases affecting all three of its plans in the United States. The cheapest Netflix subscription is now $9 per month, and its two ad-free plans have been increased by $2 each. If you’re fed up with Netflix’s rising prices and are ready to cancel your subscription as a result, we’ve put together a list of streaming services you can use to replace Netflix and save money in the process.
Which streamers should you use to replace Netflix after latest price increase?
Best Netflix replacement overall: Paramount+
If you love your Netflix subscription because it gives you access to a little bit of everything, then a pivot to Paramount+ makes the most sense. This streaming service offers a wide selection of titles, including originals, blockbuster movies from Paramount Pictures, popular kids’ shows like “SpongeBob SquarePants,” and much more.
Paramount+ also has next-day streams of primetime shows from CBS, unlocking a great lineup of sitcoms and drama series like “Ghosts,” “Tracker,” and many others. Plus, the streamer includes live NFL and UEFA Champions League games with its ad-supported tier, and ad-free subscribers get a live stream of their local CBS station, including much more in the way of news and live sports. It may not offer as many live boxing events as Netflix does, but it offers a larger selection of NFL games, streaming any game on TV in a user’s market on Sunday afternoons.
The SHOWTIME library is also included in the Paramount+ Premium plan, which allows viewers to continue watching prestige TV shows alongside the more general entertainment found on Paramount+. It’s a do-everything kind of streaming service — perfect for Netflix users who found the streamer convenient because of the amount of content it offers.
Paramount+ has two plans to choose from. Its ad-supported Essential tier costs $9 per month, the same as Netflix’s Standard with Ads plan. The real value in switching to Paramount+ is its ad-free plan; Paramount+ Premium costs only $14 per month — $6 cheaper than Netflix’s least expensive ad-free plan. It’s the best replacement for Netflix available, with a large library and a good selection of live sports on each plan.
Paramount Plus
Paramount+ is a subscription video streaming service that includes on-demand access to 40,000+ TV show episodes from BET, CBS, Comedy Central, MTV, Nickelodeon, Nick Jr., and more. Get free access with a Walmart+ subscription.
Paramount+ includes “1883,” “Tulsa King,” “Star Trek: Discovery,” “SpongeBob SquarePants,” and “PAW Patrol.” Subscribers can watch the NFL, college football, The Masters, college basketball, UEFA Champions League, UEFA Europa League, Serie A, and NWSL. The service also offers the option to watch your live CBS affiliate. The upgraded ad-free package includes premium movies and shows from Showtime.
Best replacement for Netflix if you like movies: AMC+
AMC stood for American Movie Classics when the channel first launched. More than 40 years later, AMC has branched out to original series and other types of content, but its streaming service AMC+ is still a great place for former Netflix subscribers to go if they want to stream movies.
Not only does the streamer carry its own film library, but it also includes a huge selection of content from other streamers owned by AMC. That includes BBC America, Sundance Now for independent films, Shudder for horror movies, and IFC Films as well. It adds up to thousands of movies in total, and while there won’t be much for kids to stream on AMC+, adult movie buffs will love their subscriptions.
AMC+ costs $8 per month to stream with ads, or $11 to go ad-free — both cheaper than Netflix’s equivalent offerings. Save money and watch a huge selection of top-quality films from every imaginable genre with a subscription to AMC+!
AMC+
AMC+ is a premium subscription streaming bundle owned by AMC Networks. It offers curated access to award-winning originals, indie films, and prestige television. Launched in June 2020, the service combines content from AMC with flagship brands such as BBC America, IFC, Sundance TV, Shudder, Sundance Now, and IFC Films Unlimited, delivering a rich library of exclusive programming and early episode access.
Best replacement for Netflix if you like prestige TV: Apple TV
Apple TV’s original shows and movies may not attract the same amount of fame as Netflix’s, but the streamer is a perfect new home for anyone who watched Netflix for original, prestige-style titles. Apple’s bona fides are impossible to deny, as the streamer secured a Best Picture Oscar for its “CODA” in 2022.
Original TV shows with high production values are the main focus for Apple, however. Titles like “Severance,” “Ted Lasso,” “Your Friends & Neighbors,” and others have enraptured audiences despite the smaller size of Apple TV relative to competitors.
The streamer costs $13 per month for its sole, ad-free streaming plan. That’s $7 per month less than the least expensive Netflix plan, and also includes access to all Major League Soccer games and Formula 1 races in 2026, plus a weekly doubleheader of MLB games at no extra cost.
Apple TV
Apple TV (formerly known as Apple TV+) is a subscription video streaming service for $14.99 per month, offering a growing slate of original series, films, documentaries, and specials. Unlike other platforms that combine licensed titles with originals, Apple TV is built entirely around exclusive programming, making it the home of critically acclaimed hits such as “Ted Lasso,” “Severance,” “The Morning Show,” and “Silo.” Its lineup continues to expand with award-winning dramas, comedies, family-friendly shows, and blockbuster original films like “CODA,” which won the Academy Award for Best Picture.
Best replacement for Netflix for families with kids: PBS Kids
If you were holding onto a Netflix subscription because it gave you a place to stream content for kids, then a switch to PBS Kids will help you save money and get access to a wide range of educational, no-brain-rot titles at the same time.
PBS Kids has a fantastic selection of kids’ programming, including “Daniel Tiger's Neigborhood,” “Wild Kratts,” and a host of other shows that are intended to educate and entertain at the same time. And its premium tier costs just $5 per month — almost half the cost of Netflix’s ad-supported plan, and substantially less expensive than its ad-free plans.
PBS Kids
PBS Kids is a free online streaming platform serving toddlers and preschoolers. All content here is kid-friendly and safe. Children will learn lessons about emotional regulation, creative thinking, and problem-solving, with shows focused on science, reading, and more. Standout shows include “Daniel Tiger’s Neighborhood,” “Wild Kratts,” and “Molly of Denali.” It’s a must-have service for anyone with young children.
