Just signed up for MGM+? ‘FROM’ is the first drama series to watch

A trapped town, terrifying rules, and a mystery that hooks you from the very first episode.

With a background in film and branded content, he covers sports and entertainment with sharp insight and creativity. A longtime Oilers fan, he’s still holding out hope for a Stanley Cup run.
"FROM" is the first drama TV series to watch when you sign up for MGM+.

MGM+ doesn’t always get a lot of love, but it’s got some sneaky good original series worth checking out. And if you just signed up, it’s not always obvious where to start. This isn’t a service built on endless scrolling, but instead, there’s a handful of big swings you need to know about. And there’s one show, more than anything else, that defines what MGM+ is trying to be: “FROM.” It’s creepy, addictive, and genuinely hard to stop watching once it gets going. If you’re picking one drama to kick things off on MGM+, this is it.

Why ‘FROM’ is the must-watch drama on MGM+

“FROM” is the show that made MGM+ feel like a real destination instead of just a bonus add-on. It’s the series that proved the service could deliver premium, prestige TV that people actually talk about. If MGM+ has a flagship drama, this is it.

The setup is instantly gripping: A group of strangers drives through a quiet rural town and realizes they can’t leave. Every road loops back. GPS doesn’t work. Locals insist there are rules you have to follow. And when night falls, everyone locks themselves inside because the creatures that come out will kill anyone caught outdoors. It’s part horror, part mystery, part survival story, and the danger is very clear from the jump. Like all great mysteries, the pilot doesn’t warm you up slowly. It drops you straight into the nightmare and dares you to look away.

What I really like about this show is how clean the storytelling is, even with all the weirdness. Early on, you learn exactly what keeps people alive and what gets them killed. Talismans matter. Curfews matter. Small mistakes have real consequences. As the seasons go on, the mystery grows bigger with symbols and visions slowly unpeeling the onion, but the core threat never gets muddy. You always understand what the characters are up against, and the stakes stay super high.

The tone is another big reason it clicks. It’s scary, but not in a cheap jump-scare way. It’s tense and unsettling, with a slow-burning dread that just sits with you. There are definite Stephen King vibes, and if you’ve ever loved a good mystery-box show where every answer opens up three more questions, this hits that same sweet spot.

But what really sold me is the emotional side of it. At the center of the show is a group of people just trying to protect each other and survive something that makes no sense. Harold Perrineau, as the town’s sheriff, brings real weight to the role, and the rest of the cast makes the place feel lived-in instead of gimmicky. You care about these people, which makes every nighttime sequence way more stressful.

And if you’re worried this might be too “horror-heavy,” don’t be. I’m not super into hardcore horror, and though this show is definitely intense, it’s also very human. The show explains itself clearly, eases you into the mythology, and gives you just enough answers to keep you hooked without overwhelming you. If you’re one to get sucked into a great, dark mystery, this is your show.

FROM

February 20, 2022

Unravel the mystery of a nightmarish town in middle America that traps all those who enter. As the unwilling residents fight to keep a sense of normalcy and search for a way out, they must also survive the threats of the surrounding forest – including the terrifying creatures that come out when the sun goes down.

What is ‘FROM’ about?

“From” follows a group of ordinary people who find themselves trapped in a remote town that no one can escape. Anyone who enters ends up stuck there, no matter which road they take. During the day, the residents try to live some version of normal life. At night, they barricade themselves indoors to survive attacks from terrifying humanoid creatures that come out of the surrounding forest.

The town runs on strict rules: curfews, protective talismans, and brutal consequences for breaking any of them. As the residents search for a way out, they start uncovering strange symbols, visions, and clues that suggest the town is part of something much bigger. The show blends horror, mystery, and character-driven drama, but at its core, it’s about survival, leadership, and how people hold onto hope when logic completely falls apart.

Other must-stream drama shows on MGM+

If you want another MGM+ show that feels just as confident, go with “Godfather of Harlem.” This one’s a crime drama starring Forest Whitaker as Bumpy Johnson, fusing real history with organized crime and power struggles in 1960s Harlem. For something more classic and character-driven, check out “Billy the Kid.” It’s a grounded take on the legendary outlaw, focusing less on myth and more on how someone becomes a legend in the first place. And if you want gothic horror vibes without going full nightmare fuel, there’s “Chapelwaite.” Based on a Stephen King story, it leans into atmosphere, family secrets, and creeping dread. It pairs really nicely with “FROM” if you’re in the mood to stay in spooky territory a little longer.

Its lineup is designed for viewers who prefer a more curated, movie-first streaming experience rather than a broad, everything-at-once catalog.

MGM+ operates as a standalone subscription service and is available through its own app as well as via add-on channels on platforms like Prime Video, Roku, Apple TV, Android TV, and other major streaming devices. Subscribers can stream on-demand, with many titles available in HD and select content in 4K.

With its focus on cinematic storytelling, exclusive originals, and a streamlined catalog, MGM+ appeals to viewers looking for a premium, film-forward alternative to larger general-purpose streaming platforms.
