Tubi rolls out support for Matter Casting on Fire TVs
Using Matter Casting, viewers don’t have to worry about downloading apps or signing in before casting their content to their TV.
Casting Tubi from a phone to an Amazon Fire TV streaming device just got a whole lot easier. As the free, ad-supported streaming service announced on Thursday morning, it will become the first streaming service to trigger app download and launch via Matter Casting on Fire TV devices — making for a much more effortless experience for viewers who cast from their phone to their Fire TV while watching Tubi.
Key Details:
- Screen to screen: Tubi is launching with Matter Casting on Fire TV devices in the coming weeks.
- Less clicking, more watching: Matter Casting allows viewers to start watching Tubi with no downloads or sign-ins.
- Range of devices: Tubi will support Matter Casting on a selection of Fire TV sets and players.
Amazon and Tubi say that support for Matter Casting will launch next week and will be globally available by the end of December. Matter Casting was developed by the Connectivity Standards Alliance, and championed by Amazon as the next evolution of mobile-to-TV casting.
So, what is Matter Casting anyway? Matter Casting allows viewers to launch and control Tubi from their mobile device, and cast their watching experience to their living room TV without the need for extra app downloads, sign-ins, or setup. All of this is handled automatically by Matter Casting, and real-time control on your phone makes for a true casting experience, as opposed to a temporary screen mirror.
This will give streaming customers much more direct control over their Tubi viewing experience, truly recreating the mobile experience on the TV screen without the need for extra downloads. It will help to reduce the friction of use markedly for those who cast their Tubi streams to their Fire TV device.
“In a world where content proliferates and entertainment lovers want to jump into a movie or TV show as quickly as possible, an experience that is hyper-personalized to your taste and effortless to get into is paramount,” Tubi SVP Deirdre Hesseldieck said. “With Matter Casting, we’re simplifying connected viewing by removing setup friction and enabling instant access to content.”
At launch, Matter Casting will be available on a selection of Amazon Fire TV devices, including the Fire TV Stick 4k Max, Fire TV Omni QLED Series, Fire TV Omni Mini-LED, and Fire TV Cube (3rd Gen). More devices are likely on the way soon, so keep an eye out for the list to grow in the future!
