Tubi adding video podcasts from SiriusXM
The free streamer will license a selection of shows from Sirius on a non-exclusive basis.
Another major streamer is getting into the video podcast hosting game. Tubi has announced a new deal with SiriusXM that will allow the free streamer to offer a selection of popular video podcasts from the Sirius library, giving its 100 million monthly active users a new kind of content to consume.
Key Details:
- Warm welcome: Tubi is adding a selection of video podcasts from SiriusXM.
- Big names: The initial lineup includes “Conan O’Brien Needs a Friend,” “What Now? with Trevor Noah,” and more.
- Follow the leader: Netflix also has a podcast licensing deal with SiriusXM.
Tubi is licensing these podcasts from SiriusXM on a non-exclusive basis, so listeners will be able to find them on other platforms as well. The agreement aims to give creators a new audience for their content, as well as offer existing listeners a new chance to engage with their favorites.
The first titles rolling out on Tubi will include “Conan O’Brien Needs a Friend,” “Rotten Mango,” “The School of Greatness,” “What Now? with Trevor Noah,” “Moral of the Story,” and “The Deep 3 Podcast.” More podcasts will be added at a later date.
“In podcasting, audio has long thrived through broad distribution across platforms, helping shows grow and connect with new audiences wherever people choose to listen,” SiriusXM executive Andrew Moss said. “We’re applying that same philosophy to video — expanding our creators’ reach across phones, computers, and connected TVs so their shows can be discovered by more fans in more places. Bringing our content to Tubi is another step in helping creators grow their audiences and businesses as video podcast viewing continues to expand.”
Tubi isn’t the only video streaming service getting in on the podcast game. Netflix began the trend in earnest and has made deals with Spotify and iHeart Media to import podcasts from those platforms to its service. But Tubi is the first free streamer outside of YouTube to begin offering podcasts at this scale.
“Tubi is a platform built to help creators grow their fanbases and revenue, and this partnership with SiriusXM is a natural extension of that,” Tubi executive Rich Bloom said. “By bringing some of the most compelling voices in podcasting to Tubi, we’re giving creators a powerful new avenue to expand their reach and connect with viewers who are hungry for these stories. We’re committed to being the platform where creators scale — and we’re just getting started.”
Tubi
Tubi is a free video streaming service that includes on-demand access to 200,000+ movies and TV episodes - more than any other streaming service. Its ad breaks are shorter and less frequent than most free services. Fox executives have called their service “TV on steroids.”
