Tyson Fury ending retirement for new Netflix boxing match
Fury will face Arslanbek Makhmudov in his latest comeback from retirement.
Netflix certainly has attracted some big names from the boxing world to its platform. Now, the streamer has lured none other than Tyson Fury out of retirement for one last (?) bout, a springtime fight against Arslanbek Makhmudov that’s sure to leave even the most rabid boxing fans on the planet satisfied.
Key Details:
- Feel the Fury: Tyson Fury is returning to boxing to face Arslanbek Makhmudov on Netflix.
- Spring into action: The fight is currently set for April 11.
- Come one, come all: All Netflix subscribers globally will be able to stream the bout.
As announced on Wednesday, “The Gypsy King” is coming out of retirement for a fifth time to face Makhmudov in a fight that will take place on April 11 in the United Kingdom. Fury has a career record of 34-2-1 with 24 KOs, while Makhmudov’s stands at 21-2 with 19 KOs.
To say this matchup will be hard-hitting is to understate the case, but Netflix has made a priority of offering can’t-miss bouts — at least, on paper. Boxing is one of the easiest sports to turn into a major viewing event, and Netflix continues to follow a philosophy of only televising sports that can be major one-off audience draws.
All customers on every Netflix plan can stream the fight at no extra cost, starting with the service’s Standard with Ads plan at $8 per month. The fight will be available in all global territories where Netflix can be found. Netflix has also promised a “star-studded undercard” for the fight, but more details on that will be released in the coming weeks.
“Excited to be back,” Fury told Netflix. “Heart’s always been and always will be in boxing. Someone go tell the king that the ace is back!”
Netflix has continually drawn big crowds to its boxing matches. The streamer saw 33 million global viewers tune into the December fight between Jake Paul and Anthony Joshua, and its internal data showed that 60 million global households streamed the Paul vs. Mike Tyson fight in November 2024.
