Comcast finishes Versant spinoff; where to watch CNBC, MS NOW, more

Comcast has concluded a spinoff of its cable assets into the new company Versant.

And so one has become two. That was the announcement from Comcast on Monday; after months of planning and step-by-step procedures, Comcast has completed the spinoff of the majority of its cable assets into a new company called Versant. The spinoff leaves Comcast with lots of flexibility in how it determines the future of Peacock, NBC, and the other assets it held onto, and there are still plenty of ways to continue to watch channels like CNBC, MS NOW, and USA Network that are now part of Versant.

Key Details:

  • That’s a wrap!: Comcast has finished the spinoff of most of its cable assets into a new company called Versant.
  • Careful process: The company first announced intentions to spin off Versant more than a year ago.
  • Lots of options: DIRECTV and other streamers still carry channels that now fall under the Versant umbrella.

Included in the spinoff of Comcast’s cable assets are popular channels like CNBC, E!, Golf Channel, MS NOW, Oxygen, SYFY, and the USA Network. Comcast still controls the NBC broadcast network, Bravo, and the new NBC Sports Network channel, which televises sporting events otherwise found solely on the Peacock streaming service.

Comcast first announced it planned to spin off these networks in November 2024, showing the deliberate pace with which the company executed the maneuver. In the process, the cable news network MSNBC changed its name to MS NOW, though it still offers the same programming.

The move should leave Comcast more flexibility to invest assets in its remaining TV channels, as well as the Universal TV and movie studios, and of course, Peacock. Versant is now available to be acquired or merged with another channel-owning entity, or can continue on its own as an independent company.

If you’re worried that the spinoff of Versant means you’ll be cut off from watching CNBC, MS NOW, or another favorite channel included in the shift, fear not. All these channels are still found on the pay-TV plans that formerly carried them, including live TV streaming services.

DIRECTV is our recommended way to stream these various channels, as it carries them in so many different channel packages. If you want a more all-in-one option, DIRECTV Signature plans that carry nearly all of these channels start at $90 per month. Alternatively, you can find Versant-owned networks in DIRECTV Genre Packs, allowing you to watch only the programming you really want without having to pay for channels you won’t watch as often.

Fubo, Hulu + Live TV, and YouTube TV all carry these channels as well, and many of them are also found in Sling TV’s Blue package — though not all. Check out the channel chart below to see which of these networks are available from which streaming service to find your best fit.
