Does Prime Video have strict rules on password sharing?

Does Prime Video have strict rules on password sharing?

Amazon does things a little differently than most major streamers when it comes to sharing accounts.

Known for breaking major streaming stories, he’s covered everything from Netflix policy shifts to Peacock’s ad-tier changes. A sci-fi fan and Toshiba Fire TV user, he brings sharp analysis and a love for the genre to his reporting.

[Amazon] has earned a reputation as being willing to do whatever it takes to enhance its bottom line, be it cutting-edge deals or continuing to sell a product that some users found controversial in some way. Audiences can well be forgiven for thinking that policy would extend to the Prime Video streaming service, particularly when it comes to rules about password sharing.

But does Prime Video enforce draconian regulations regarding the sharing of accounts? What are its rules regarding the sharing of accounts? We’ve got all the information you need right here.

What you need to know about password sharing on Prime Video

What do the Prime Video terms of service say about password sharing?

Prime Video does offer terms of service that the public can read, much like every other streaming service. But unlike most other streamers, a quick perusal of the service doesn’t yield any specific passages restricting the sharing of accounts on Prime Video. Most services explicitly state that the sharing of accounts outside a chosen home is a violation of their terms of use, but any such language is absent from the Prime Video terms. Prime Video may not want you sharing your account outside your home, but there doesn’t seem to be any strict language forbidding it, either.

What is Amazon Family?

If you receive your Prime Video subscription through Amazon Prime, as most people do, you can set up an Amazon Family to allow the rest of your household to enjoy Prime benefits. Viewers can set up Amazon Families with one other adult, up to four teens, and up to four children’s profiles as well.

Once you have set up your Amazon Family, everyone in it can watch Prime Video and use the other benefits of an Amazon Prime subscription. However, it is important to note that Amazon Family benefits are only intended to be used at the address of the account holder.

Does Amazon enforce any account-sharing restrictions for Prime Video?

At the moment, there don’t appear to be any reports of Prime Video warning viewers that they cannot use the service outside the home of the account owner. No warning messages or prompts to sign up for a new account have been reported by users who admit to using someone else’s Prime Video.
