What Does the Venu Sports Defeat Mean for Football Season?

What Does the Venu Sports Defeat Mean for Football Season?

Venu Sports was set to be a major factor in the upcoming NFL and NCAA football seasons, but thanks to a judge's preliminary injunction, the new streamer will be stuck on the sidelines. It’s not a question of when Venu enters the scene, but whether it can launch at all.

Remember, Venu was going to offer full live feeds of 14 linear networks: ESPN, ESPN2, ESPNU, SEC Network, ACC Network, ESPNEWS, ABC, Fox, FS1, FS2, Big Ten Network, TNT, TBS, truTV, as well as ESPN+. The package would have cost $42.99 / month.

Assembling that lineup anywhere else would cost more because other services are required to carry other channels from Venu’s parent companies. But we’ll give you the lowdown on all your streaming options. There are some fantastic deals on live streaming if you sign up before the season begins.

What Are the Best Live Streaming Deals for Football?

Right now, there are two big promos going on.

DIRECTV STREAM is offering a crazy deal of $30-39 off each month for your first 3 months of the service. It’s a reliable service with a huge channel lineup, an unlimited cloud DVR, and unlimited concurrent streams at home.

With the sale, the price to watch through January would be an average of $62/month without NFL RedZone or $77 if you want the channel. You can get started with a 5-day FREE trial.

Pro: The best lineup in streaming TV
Con: Non-sale price can be high for some key channels

Another great deal is Sling TV’s package. The live streamer offers lots of channel bundles to choose from, but there’s a sale on a combo of its biggest lineups (named Orange and Blue) and its Sports Extra group. Normally, that combo would cost $70/month, but thanks to their Football Kickoff Deal, you’ll only pay $50/month for four months. You can’t find a better bargain.

Pro: Best prices on live streaming and variable lineups
Con: Lacks ABC, NBC, FOX in some markets, no CBS in any market

Other Football Streamers to Consider

Hulu Live TV gives you the benefit of free Disney+, ESPN+, and Hulu. If you’re thinking of signing up, just be aware the price will go up in October. It’s a good lineup of entertainment, though it may be more than you need.

Pro: Good channel lineup with 3 free on-demand services
Con: Price going up soon

Fubo gets credit for killing Venu’s launch with its lawsuit (at least temporarily). But we can’t quite recommend it for most people. The base price is higher than every other service and the channel lineup is missing many key networks.

Pro: Includes some hard-to-find regional sports networks in all tiers
Con: Price is unnecessarily high

YouTube TV is probably your best bet if you need NFL Sunday Ticket. But nearly all its competitors offer better prices or a better channel lineup. It’s a nice option, but we’ve been happier with other streamers.

Pro: Easy interface and good channel lineup
Con: Few regional sports networks and inflexible main package
