How does Audible Premium Plus work? What to know
Is upgrading from Audible Standard to a Premium Plus subscription worth it? We’ll explain what you need to know here.
Having an Audible subscription means users get access to a huge library of audiobooks, plus podcasts and Audible Originals. The streamer offers two subscription plans to new customers: the Standard plan for $9 per month, and the Premium Plus plan starting at $15 per month.
Zooming in on the Premium Plus plan reveals a subscription with a ton of great features — but is it really necessary to upgrade past the Audible Standard plan? We’ll give you our recommendation below, but not before we fill you in on all the details you need to know about Audible Premium Plus so you can decide for yourself.
How Audible Premium Plus works: Everything you need to know
What is Audible Premium Plus?
Audible Premium Plus is the higher-priced subscription plan offered by the audiobook streaming service. Its main features include the ability to stream unlimited books from the included Audible library, as well as at least one credit per month to redeem on any title in the service’s Premium library. An Audible Premium Plus subscription also offers exclusive sales and discounts on purchased titles.
What’s the difference between Audible Standard and Audible Premium Plus?
There are a few key differences between Audible Standard and Audible Premium Plus — including price. The Standard plan costs $9 per month, while the Premium Plus plan starts at $15 per month — at least $6 per month more than the Standard tier.
With Audible Standard, viewers can select one audiobook each month from the platform’s entire collection, and download that title for offline listening. Customers can listen to their selected audiobooks for as long as they have an Audible subscription, but unused monthly selections do not roll over. Audible Standard also includes the full selection of podcasts available with a subscription, with no additional ads during playback.
Audible Premium Plus does things a bit differently. It offers at least one credit per month to each subscriber, letting customers choose any audiobook from its library. That book is then the listener’s for keeps — even if they cancel their Audible subscription. Unused credits also roll over month to month until the listener compiles nine credits with a Premium Plus account.
How much does Audible Premium Plus cost?
Audible Premium Plus has both annual and monthly pricing options, and also allows listeners to decide if they want one credit per month or two. Viewers can also sign up for an Audible Premium Plus bimonthly plan, allowing them to purchase one credit every other month for a lower price overall. See the price of each plan in the table below:
| Audible plan | Price | Credits per month |
|---|---|---|
| Premium Plus bimonthly | $17 every other month | 1 every other month |
| Premium Plus monthly | $15 | 1 |
| Premium Plus monthly | $23 (with extra credit upgrade) | 2 |
| Premium Plus annual | $149.50 | 1 |
| Premium Plus annual | $229.50 | 2 |

Is Audible Premium Plus worth it?
That all depends on how much of an audiobook fiend you are. If you’re a more casual listener, you can probably get by just fine with an Audible Standard subscription. Standard customers still get to listen to one book per month without ads, and can also check out the platform’s podcast stable without any ad breaks inserted by Audible itself.
If you’re a voracious consumer of audiobooks, however, an Audible Premium Plus subscription may well be worth your time and money. Unlimited access to the included Audible catalog means subscribers will be able to enjoy their fill of audiobooks every month, quite apart from the title they choose to spend their credit on.
Listeners who have all-time favorite audiobooks that they don’t want to lose access to will also want to seriously consider Audible Premium Plus. Since books you buy with a credit on Audible are yours even after you cancel, it’s a great way to collect your most cherished titles. Plus, since some of these audiobooks can cost $30 each or more, you stand to save considerable money by purchasing them with an Audible credit instead.
An Audible Premium Plus subscription is rather expensive, with a starting price of $15 per month. It’s not an absolute need for all audiobook enjoyers, but true lovers of audiobooks will love the extra features that come with a Premium Plus subscription.
