What are the parental controls on Apple TV+?

Apple TV+ is the home of Peanuts specials and other kids titles, so having the ability to control what kids see on the service is important.

Known for breaking major streaming stories, he’s covered everything from Netflix policy shifts to Peacock’s ad-tier changes. A sci-fi fan and Toshiba Fire TV user, he brings sharp analysis and a love for the genre to his reporting.
Apple TV+ has parental controls easily available on a variety of devices.

With Apple TV+ hosting “It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown!” and other Peanuts specials, parents with subscriptions are sure to be wondering if the service has parental controls. After all, Apple TV+ is also home to titles like “Slow Horses” that are filled with adult language, or raunchy fun like “The Studio” that aren’t for younger eyes.

So, what kind of parental controls does Apple TV+ have, and how do you use them? We have more data on the streamer and its limits for parents here.

What parental controls does Apple TV+ have?

Does Apple TV+ have parental controls?

Yes, Apple TV+ does have parental controls — though it’s important to note off the bat that the streamer only employs its controls on the device you’re allowing kids to stream on in a given session. In other words, turning on parental controls while watching Apple TV+ on a web browser will not turn them on while watching it on a TV or phone.

To turn on parental controls for Apple TV+ on the web:

  1. Go to the streamer’s website and sign in.
  2. Click the account icon in the upper-right corner of the screen.
  3. Click Settings.
  4. Scroll down to Parental Controls and toggle Content Restrictions to on.
  5. Create a four-digit passcode when prompted, and choose a recovery email in case you forget that passcode.
  6. Choose the content ratings you want for TV shows and movies.

From this point forward, Apple TV+ will remember your preferences across all web browsers, but it will not restrict content on smart TVs or mobile phones.

On the Apple TV app for connected TVs, the process is similar.

  1. Open the Apple TV app.
  2. On the side navigation menu, select Settings.
  3. Scroll to Restrictions.
  4. Enter a four-digit passcode.
  5. Restrict content to your maturity rating preferences.

You can also set up Screen Time restrictions on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch if you want to control the websites kids can access, and the time they spend watching.

Can you lock out specific titles with Apple TV+ controls?

No, unfortunately, there is no way to identify specific TV shows or movies that you don’t want to show up on your Apple TV+ interface. However, the ability to customize the maturity of content you want to give access to, and to change it for TV shows and movies separately, is still a good level of control.

Apple TV

Apple TV (formerly known as Apple TV+) is a subscription video streaming service for $14.99 per month, offering a growing slate of original series, films, documentaries, and specials. Unlike other platforms that combine licensed titles with originals, Apple TV is built entirely around exclusive programming, making it the home of critically acclaimed hits such as “Ted Lasso,” “Severance,” “The Morning Show,” and “Silo.” Its lineup continues to expand with award-winning dramas, comedies, family-friendly shows, and blockbuster original films like “CODA,” which won the Academy Award for Best Picture.

…

In October 2025, Apple TV agreed to a deal with Formula 1 to exclusively broadcast all Formula 1 races starting with the 2026 season.

Apple TV also features coverage of all regular-season matches for Major League Soccer (MLS) at no additional cost.

On August 28th, 2026, the price of Apple TV was increased from $12.99 per month to $14.99 per month, the second increase in as many years.

The service is available worldwide through the Apple TV app, which is built into Apple devices and supported on most smart TVs, streaming players like Roku and Fire TV, game consoles, and web browsers. Subscribers can watch on demand, download episodes and movies for offline viewing, and stream in 4K with Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos, where available. Apple TV also offers family sharing, allowing up to six people to use one subscription at no extra cost.

With a competitive monthly price and bundles available through Apple One — which combines Apple TV with Apple Music, Apple Arcade, iCloud storage, and more — the service continues to grow as a key part of Apple’s ecosystem. Apple TV delivers one of the strongest collections of exclusive content in the streaming space for viewers seeking prestige originals, cinematic storytelling, and seamless access across devices.
