When is ‘The Long Walk’ expected to start streaming?
The new adaptation of Stephen King’s novel of the same name is rolling out in theaters this weekend.
“The Long Walk” is strolling into theaters on Friday, Sept. 12. The film adapts the Stephen King novel of the same name, written under King’s pseudonym Richard Bachman. Although it’s not available to stream now, we’ll let you know when we think it’ll trek to on-demand services using past releases from the same distributor as a guide.
Key Details:
- It’s no slog: Critics and preview audiences agree “The Long Walk” is a worthwhile watch.
- Roar loud: Lionsgate is distributing “The Long Walk,” so it will stream on Lionsgate, then Peacock.
- Century mark: A wait of 100 days for the movie seems highly likely based on recent history.
“The Long Walk” is, as mentioned, an adaptation of King’s novel. Set in a dystopian future in which America is ruled by a totalitarian regime, contestants participate in a “contest” known as The Long Walk. They must maintain a speed of at least five miles per hour, or face the executioner. The last person standing gets to collect a prize of whatever they want, but their No. 1 wish after surviving The Long Walk might be a therapist…
Critics say the movie is haunting, chilling, and emotional, according to Rotten Tomatoes. The ratings website currently registers a 93% from critics, and 86% of regular viewers who have seen a preview screening agree it’s quite a worthwhile trip to the theaters. The movie has a cast featuring Cooper Hoffman, David Jonsson, Garret Wareing, Tut Nyuot, Charlie Plummer, and appearances by Mark Hamill and Judy Greer just to spice things up a little.

When and where will ‘The Long Walk’ stream?
“The Long Walk” is being distributed by Lionsgate, which no longer has an in-house streaming service because it is legally separated from the STARZ network and streaming service. Nevertheless, a licensing agreement between the two stipulates that Lionsgate movies stream on STARZ first, then move to Peacock — though in 2026, Prime Video will take over as Pay-2 partner for Lionsgate titles.
Regardless, we know that STARZ is getting “The Long Walk” first. I think it’s virtually guaranteed to take more than 100 days; “Ballerina,” the latest movie in the “John Wick” franchise, will arrive on STARZ on Sept. 25, 111 days after its theatrical release in June. The Mark Wahlberg vehicle “Flight Risk” took 120 days to reach streaming, and that window seems likely for “The Long Walk” as well.
If that prediction turns out to be accurate, “The Long Walk” will stream on STARZ on Jan. 10, 2026. It will arrive on Prime Video an undisclosed length of time later, but viewers shouldn’t expect it there for at least four to six months, and possibly longer. Peacock will probably miss the film altogether.
