An evolution that began all the way back in 2007 is ending nearly 20 years later — or at least, changing radically. The Hulu app is destined to be sunset at some point in 2026, at which time all content from the streamer will be moved entirely to the Disney+ app.

If you’re looking for a premium, high-quality audio experience on Hulu, the best the service has to offer is Dolby Digital Plus 5.1 surround sound on a variety of titles. Unlike most modern streaming services, Hulu does not support a more premium audio format such as Dolby Atmos or spatial audio.

Can you listen to premium audio on all Hulu plans?

Yes, you can listen to select titles in 5.1 surround sound on the Hulu with ads plan, or the ad-free Hulu Premium tier.

How to use premium audio on Hulu

To enable 5.1 surround sound on a compatible device, viewers will need to select a 5.1-supported option from the audio output settings on their TV or connected soundbar.
