Is a ‘Cowboy Carter’ streaming special featuring Beyonce coming?

Beyonce won Album of the Year at Sunday’s Grammy Awards, and will take the ‘Cowboy Carter’ album on tour. Will that lead to a streaming special?

Beyonce is taking her Cowboy Carter album on tour, which could lead to a special on Netflix or another streamer.

It’s finally happened. After an already-storied career that has been accompanied by plenty of accolades, Beyonce has won one of music’s most prestigious honors: an Album of the Year Award at the Grammys. Queen Bey’s album “Cowboy Carter” was selected as Album of the Year at Sunday’s Grammy Awards, and she’s gearing up to take it on tour! There’s a good chance that will lead to a streaming special as well, and we’ll give our thoughts on that below.

Key Details:

  • Netflix’s on-demand stream of the “Beyonce Bowl” confirms a “Cowboy Carter” tour is on the way.
  • If Netflix and Beyonce are partnering on the tour, a streaming special seems like a foregone conclusion.
  • Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour movie was a huge hit for Disney+.

Fans who head over to the “Beyonce Bowl” — the on-demand recording of Beyonce’s performance at the halftime show of the Houston Texans vs. Baltimore Ravens game on Christmas Day — will see the announcement of the “Cowboy Carter” tour tacked onto the end of the special.

The placement of the announcement on Netflix could indicate the streamer will partner with the international superstar for the tour. If that’s the case, it’s a near certainty that a docuseries or some other form of streaming special following the “Cowboy Carter” tour will be announced in the coming months.

Even if Netflix isn’t an official tour partner, however, I’m guessing that it will generate some kind of show or movie featuring Queen Bey. She’s already one of the biggest artists in the world, and her brand is red-hot thanks to Sunday’s Grammy win. Any streamer should be jumping at the chance to make content surrounding the “Cowboy Carter” tour.

Just look at the success created by Taylor Swift and her “Eras” tour. Grossing over $2 billion in ticket sales, the tour also spawned a streaming special “Taylor Swift | The Eras Tour” on Disney+. It garnered 4.6 million views over its first three days of availability, becoming the most-watched music film on the streamer when it came out in March 2024.

Netflix is the most likely to produce a “Cowboy Carter” special, as the partnership between it and Beyonce is already so strong. The service is carrying the “Beyonce Bowl” as mentioned above and also offers “HOMECOMING: A Film by Beyonce,” which gives fans an intimate look inside her 2018 performance at the Coachella music festival. Disney+ also has a big inventory of music specials and could be a good fit, but for now, I’m thinking Beyonce and Netflix will stick together for a “Cowboy Carter” doc.

So keep an eye out, BeyHive, because an official announcement of a Netflix special centering on the “Cowboy Carter” tour could be on the way soon. It seems like a near guarantee, as Netflix or some other service would be downright foolish not to at least approach Beyonce about a special of some kind.

Netflix

Netflix is a leading subscription-based video streaming service that offers on-demand access to an extensive library of over 3,000 movies, 2,000+ TV shows, and a growing collection of acclaimed Netflix originals. Renowned for producing groundbreaking content, Netflix has become a cultural powerhouse with hit originals like “Stranger Things,” “Wednesday,” “Squid Game,” “The Crown,” “Tiger King,” “Bridgerton,” “The Witcher,” and “Black Mirror.”

…

The platform constantly updates its catalog, introducing fresh content alongside timeless classics and international hits. Netflix’s commitment to storytelling has also earned critical acclaim, with award-winning exclusives such as “Roma,” “Marriage Story,” “The Power of the Dog,” “Mank,” and “Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom.” In 2023, their animated film “Guillermo del Toro’s Pinocchio” won an Academy Award for Best Animated Feature, further solidifying Netflix’s reputation for high-quality content.

Recently, Netflix has expanded beyond standard movies and TV titles with the addition of video podcasts, and is also exploring a digital store that would offer third-party streamers within the app.

Netflix offers three plans – stream on 2 devices in HD with the “Standard with Ads” ($8.99) plan, on 2 devices in HD with the “Standard” ($19.99) plan, and 4 devices in up to 4K on the “Premium” ($26.99) plan.
