- Pick up the pace: The company says its new Fire TV Stick 4K is up to 40% faster than competing sticks.

The new Fire TV Stick 4K has 8GB of internal storage, a quad-core 1.7 GHz processor, and support for Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth 5.3, and Bluetooth Low Energy. It supports premium video formats such as HDR10, HDR10+, HLG, H.265, H.264, VP9, and AV1 video content formats and features 2160p, 1080p, and 720p output resolutions up to 60 frames per second.
The device will “get customers to content from nearly 20–40% faster than a similarly priced 4K stick from another leading brand,” Amazon promises. The stick launches apps more than 35% faster, and content starts playing almost 20% faster, the company says. Viewers can check out the speed tests conducted by Amazon on its new Fire TV Stick 4K in the video below:

The device is built with Amazon’s Vega operating system, which means customers will not be able to install any apps on it that are not found in the Amazon Appstore. The Fire TV Stick 4K is slimmer than previous models, giving viewers more room to maneuver as they try to plug in their various devices to their TV’s HDMI ports.
The release of the new Fire TV Stick 4K is accompanied by a streamlining of the overall Fire TV device line. No longer will the company make new models of the Fire TV Stick 4K Select or the Fire TV Stick 4K Plus; the company appears to have taken features from each and merged them into the new Fire TV Stick 4K. That’s reflected in the $60 price tag of the new Fire TV Stick 4K, which is $10 more than the Fire TV Stick 4K Select and $10 less than the Fire TV Stick 4K Max.
The new Fire TV Stick 4K also includes a redesigned Fire TV remote, with an asymmetric shape so viewers know which direction to hold it. The home button now has a distinct metal surface, so owners will be able to tell which it is without looking at the remote interface. The new remote will also feature a customizable shortcut button, which was previously available only on more premium Fire TV remote models.
Just last week, we recommended the Fire TV Stick 4K Plus as the best offering in the Fire TV family. Will the new Fire TV Stick 4K measure up to its predecessors? When we get our hands on one, we’ll make sure to let you know!
