Annette Bening is joining the cast of The Dutton Ranch, a Yellowstone spinoff.

Taylor Sheridan is known for attracting big-name talent to his shows, and the latest casting news from a show set in the Sheridan-verse shows that he hasn’t lost his Midas touch. As first reported by Deadline, Annette Benning is joining the cast of one of the spinoffs of “Yellowstone” that are currently in various stages of production.

Key Details:

  • Bening on board: Bening joins the cast of the “Yellowstone” spinoff focusing on Beth Dutton and her husband.
  • Big villain energy?: From the description of her character, Bening could be setting up as the main villain of the show.
  • One of many:Multiple projects set in the “Yellowstone” universe are in the works.

Deadline says that Bening is joining the cast of the show now under the working title of “The Dutton Ranch.” She’ll star opposite Kelly Reilly, Cole Hauser, and Finn Little, all of whom are returning to their roles originally established in “Yellowstone.” That spinoff was first announced in December last year. It will follow Beth Dutton, heir to the Yellowstone Ranch, following the death of her father, John Dutton III. Hauser returns to play Rip Wheeler, Beth’s husband and ranch foreman, who became devoted to John at a young age.

Bening’s role, as described by Deadline, is a powerful, intelligent, and charming owner of a major ranch in Texas named Beulah Jackson. From that character description, it sounds quite likely that Bening is being set up as the villain of “The Dutton Ranch,” though that hasn’t been confirmed by any official source.

“The Dutton Ranch” is just one of the new stories set in the “Yellowstone” universe coming to Paramount-owned properties in the next few years. Amongst projects in the works include a series following Kayce Dutton, a show set at the real-life Four Sixes ranch in Texas (which Sheridan owns), and a series set in Montana called “The Madison.”

“The Dutton Ranch” will stream on Paramount+ when it is released, and episodes will likely air on the linear Paramount Network as well. There aren’t many details yet about the show, but we do know that a heavyweight performer has joined the cast of the series in Bening.
