A ‘Yellowstone’ spin-off centering on Beth Dutton is coming; here’s everything we know
It was originally thought the Beth and Rip characters would continue in a sixth season of ‘Yellowstone,’ but now it appears they’re getting a show of their own.
The Dutton family isn’t ready to ride off into the Montana sunset just yet. A new report from Deadline indicates that Beth Dutton and her husband Rip Wheeler will be the subjects of a new spinoff series set in the “Yellowstone” universe. We’ll run through all the details we have about the show so far, including where you’ll eventually be able to stream it!
Everything we know so far about Beth Dutton and Rip Wheeler ‘Yellowstone’ spin-off
What’s the show about?
There aren’t any plot details available yet, but if the series focuses on Beth and Rip, it’s not a stretch to assume that it will follow the characters once their “Yellowstone” storylines conclude. Whether that means hoofing it down to Texas to see what that branch of the family business is up to or staying in Montana to cement the legacy of Beth’s father John remains to be seen.
Is the show replacing ‘Yellowstone’ Season 6?
Likely yes. In August, reports emerged that despite the departure of Kevin Costner as John Dutton, the story of the Dutton family would continue in a sixth season of “Yellowstone.” However, the reports circulating now state that Paramount would prefer the spin-off route with the Beth and Rip story, rather than continue on with “Yellowstone.” Variety does state that a Season 6 of “Yellowstone” is not completely out of the question, but it’s less likely than previously. As of now, the new series is planning to use the word “Yellowstone” in the title, but no further details have been reported on a prospective title.
Where will the series stream?
It’s essentially a guarantee that the show will stream on Paramount+ when it releases. A licensing deal Paramount would love to take back will continue to keep “Yellowstone” on Peacock for years to come, but if the Beth and Rip spin-off is a new series, it will allow Paramount to keep all the rights for itself and stream it on its own platform.
When will it come out?
The production schedule of major TV shows being what it is, there’s a good possibility that any Beth and Rip series won’t hit TV and streaming until 2026 at the earliest. From the sound of things, the show is still in the planning stages, so it could take even longer before it’s ready to air.
How does it connect to other upcoming Sheridan titles?
Sheridan is working on at least two other series set in the “Yellowstone” universe. “The Madison” will center on a New York family moving into the Montana wilderness, and bringing all their intrigue with them.
The second is under the working title “6666,” and is set to take place on the real-life Four Sixes Ranch in Texas, which is owned by Sheridan himself. The latter series could be set on the back burner if Sheridan decides he wants to go forward with the Beth and Rip spin-off on a quicker schedule.
Will it be available on linear channels?
Paramount Network is the linear home of “Yellowstone,” and will likely air new episodes of other Sheridan titles, including a Beth and Rip spin-off. Paramount has also sent heavily edited episodes of “Yellowstone” to CBS in order to fill programming gaps and attract a new audience to the show, but whether it will do so in the future for other Sheridan shows is not yet known.
