Jessica Chastian not happy with delay of ‘The Savant’

The release of the series has been put on hold, and its headlining star isn’t pleased about the decision.

Known for breaking major streaming stories, he’s covered everything from Netflix policy shifts to Peacock’s ad-tier changes. A sci-fi fan and Toshiba Fire TV user, he brings sharp analysis and a love for the genre to his reporting.
Jessica Chastain disagrees with Apple's decision to put 'The Savant' on the shelf.

Apple was likely hoping the decision to indefinitely delay the release of its new series “The Savant” would attract less attention than it has. The show was due to arrive on Apple TV+ on Friday, Sept. 26, but there’s no telling when — or even if — it will ever be released now. That fact has caught the attention of series star Jessica Chastain, who expressed her displeasure at the decision not to release the show to the public.

Key Details:

  • Not bearing fruit: Apple quietly decided to shelve “The Savant,” likely due in part to current events.
  • Difference of opinion: Chastain says she is “not aligned” with Apple on the decision.
  • Still no clarity: The actress ended her statement by promising updates “if and when” they become available.

Apple didn’t elaborate on its decision to put “The Savant” on hiatus, but the decision is likely tied to the recent assassination of right-wing political activist Charlie Kirk. Plot details about “The Savant” are not fully known, but the show is known to deal with the topic of political violence graphically.

Apple says that it still “look[s] forward to releasing the series at a future date,” but has not given further hints as to when that might be. Chastain acknowledged her good working relationship with Apple, but also said in a statement on Instagram that she was “not aligned with the decision” to halt the release of the series.

The rest of Chastain’s statement is included below:

In the last five years since we’ve been making the show, we’ve seen an unfortunate amount of violence in the United States: the kidnapping attempt on Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer; the January 6th attack on the Capitol; the assassination attempts on President Trump; the political assassinations of Democratic representatives in Minnesota; the attack on Speaker Pelosi’s husband; the assassination of conservative commentator Charlie Kirk; the recent shooting at an ABC affiliate station in California; and over 300 school shootings across this country. These incidents, though far from encompassing the full range of violence witnessed in the United States, illustrate a broader mindset that crosses the political spectrum and must be confronted. I’ve never shied away from difficult subjects, and while I wish this show wasn’t so relevant, unfortunately it is. The Savant is about the heroes who work every day to stop violence before it happens, and honoring their courage feels more urgent than ever. While I respect Apple’s decision to pause the release for now, I remain hopeful the show will reach audiences soon. Until then, I’m wishing safety and strength for everyone, and I’ll let you know if and when The Savant is released.

Her closing words indicate that no one at Apple has offered her any guarantees that “The Savant” will eventually be released at a later date. There is every chance that the show will never appear on Apple TV+ at all, but viewers should continue to check with The Streamable for updates on the story as they become available in the coming months.

In October 2025, Apple TV agreed to a deal with Formula 1 to exclusively broadcast all Formula 1 races starting with the 2026 season.

Apple TV also features coverage of all regular-season matches for Major League Soccer (MLS) at no additional cost.

On August 28th, 2026, the price of Apple TV was increased from $12.99 per month to $14.99 per month, the second increase in as many years.

The service is available worldwide through the Apple TV app, which is built into Apple devices and supported on most smart TVs, streaming players like Roku and Fire TV, game consoles, and web browsers. Subscribers can watch on demand, download episodes and movies for offline viewing, and stream in 4K with Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos, where available. Apple TV also offers family sharing, allowing up to six people to use one subscription at no extra cost.

With a competitive monthly price and bundles available through Apple One — which combines Apple TV with Apple Music, Apple Arcade, iCloud storage, and more — the service continues to grow as a key part of Apple’s ecosystem. Apple TV delivers one of the strongest collections of exclusive content in the streaming space for viewers seeking prestige originals, cinematic storytelling, and seamless access across devices.
