Apple officially rolls out tvOS version 18.4
There aren’t many major updates with tvOS 18.4, but it does come with several enhancements for the device’s user interface.
It’s software update day for Apple TV device owners! The newest version of Apple TV operating software, called tvOS 18.4, is now available to download onto your device. Unlike past tvOS updates, this one doesn’t have a host of brand-new features, but it does come with several key upgrades to the device’s user interface.
Key Details:
- Titles in the featured carousel now have a larger plus button for adding to the Watchlist.
- Details on a show’s release schedule are now more prominently placed.
- Select content sections now have larger, more easy to spot icons.
The changes to the Apple TV interface in tvOS 18.4 start at the top of the screen. The featured content carousel now has three changes worth discussing; first, a large plus button for more easily adding shows and movies to a user’s Watchlist.
Next up, a large “i” button will help you access a show’s information page more quickly and easily. Lastly, the details on a show’s release schedule are much more prominent, helping users get a better idea of when they can watch the next episode of their favorite show.
The user interface also now comes with updated icons and fonts for easier navigation. Certain content rows will now come with new icon designs, including Movies Spotlight, Sports, and “Friday Night Baseball” on the Apple TV+ streaming service.
These aren’t particularly groundbreaking updates, but Apple TV owners should be excited nonetheless. They will make browsing through the device’s interface much easier and hopefully will lead to more watching and less scrolling around for new content to try.
Apple TV
Apple TV (formerly known as Apple TV+) is a subscription video streaming service for $14.99 per month, offering a growing slate of original series, films, documentaries, and specials. Unlike other platforms that combine licensed titles with originals, Apple TV is built entirely around exclusive programming, making it the home of critically acclaimed hits such as “Ted Lasso,” “Severance,” “The Morning Show,” and “Silo.” Its lineup continues to expand with award-winning dramas, comedies, family-friendly shows, and blockbuster original films like “CODA,” which won the Academy Award for Best Picture.
