‘Bridgerton,’ other top Netflix shows not returning this year

‘Bridgerton,’ other top Netflix shows not returning this year

On Wednesday, Netflix announced a list of shows that would be returning with new episodes this year. There were some notable ommissions.

Netflix titles like BEEF, Bridgerton, and Outer Banks are not returning with new episodes in 2026.

The list of popular TV shows on Netflix is incredibly long. The streamer’s crews are at work around the clock on delivering new episodes of titles like “Stranger Things” and “Wednesday,” but even Netflix can’t turn out new seasons of every show fans want to see yearly. The streamer announced a list of new shows coming to its platform this season on Wednesday at its Next on Netflix presentation, and while there are some very popular titles on it, there are also some glaring omissions.

Key Details:

  • “Squid Games,” “Stranger Things,” and “Wednesday” will all release new seasons on Netflix this year.
  • “BEEF,” “Bridgerton,” “Virgin River,” and other popular Netflix shows won’t return until at least 2026.
  • Some of the seasons not scheduled to come back this year could still find a way to return in 2025.

Let’s start with the good news: this year will see the return of some incredibly popular Netflix titles. “Stranger Things” is coming back, though there’s still no official date for the show. That’s not the case for “Squid Game” Season 3, which will be premiering its final season on June 27.

“Emily in Paris,” “Ginny & Georgia,” “Monster,” “Wednesday,” and “The Witcher” are also on the list of Netflix shows releasing new seasons this year. According to exclusive reporting from Deadline, John Mulaney’s live variety talk show will launch on March 12 and will run for 12 weeks. That makes for a packed Netflix slate, and it’s still not a complete list of new titles headed to the streamer in 2025.

Now, for the bad news. Titles including “The 3 Body Problem,” “Avatar: The Last Airbender,” “BEEF,” “Black Doves,” “Bridgerton,” “The Lincoln Lawyer,” “One Piece,” and “Virgin River” are not on the 2025 release schedule. There’s a very good chance that none of these shows will be back with new episodes until 2026.

There is a possibility that some of these titles might squeak into the fourth quarter of 2025 after all. “The Lincoln Lawyer,” for example, has been preparing to produce a Season 4 for some time despite not officially being renewed until this month. A quick turnaround isn’t out of the question, though it’s not likely.

The Netflix release calendar is still pretty packed for 2025, but there are still some titles that aren’t coming back until at least 2026. The streamer has done incredible work crafting a content slate that keeps viewers coming back time and time again, partially explaining how it was able to grow to more than 300 million global customers.
