Can You Stream Glen Powell in ‘Twisters’ Now? When Will it Blow Onto Peacock?

It’s easy to say which streamer will get “Twisters” when it’s finished rampaging through theaters, but when it will arrive is a tricky question.

The sequel to the 1996 film Twister arrives in theaters on Friday, July 19.

Nothing like an environmental disaster movie to take the edge off a stressful month, right? “Twisters” makes its theatrical debut on Friday, July 19, nearly 30 years after its predecessor “Twister” arrived to delight and terrify audiences. The movie is only available in theaters, but I’ll give my prediction on when you can stream it at home below!

Key Details:

  • Critics praise the film as a high-velocity thriller and single out actor Glen Powell for accolades.
  • As a Universal film, “Twisters” will stream on Peacock when it leaves theaters.
  • NBCUniversal may have settled into a dual releasing schedule for its movies, but will “Twisters” use a shorter or longer window?

Watch a Trailer for ‘Twisters’:

As storm season intensifies in “Twisters,” the paths of former storm chaser Kate Cooper — lured back to the open plains after a devastating experience years ago — and reckless social-media superstar Tyler Owens. The two storm chasers collide when terrifying phenomena never seen before are unleashed. The pair and their competing teams find themselves squarely in the paths of multiple storm systems converging over central Oklahoma in a fight to better understand one of nature’s most violent phenomena.

The movie has garnered plenty of praise from critics, and so far has a 78% score on Rotten Tomatoes. Reviewers are praising the film’s simple but effective formula, as well as the charisma of lead Glen Powell. Preview audiences who have seen the film agree, as the 93% audience score reflects.

When Will ‘Twisters’ Be Streaming on Peacock?

It will likely take at least 90 days for Twisters to become available in theaters.

“Twisters” is being distributed by Universal in the United States, which means once it’s finished with a window of theatrical exclusivity, plus a period when it’s only available to stream on digital rental and purchase platforms, it will move to Peacock where it will be available to stream for anyone with a subscription.

It’s starting to appear as if Peacock and its parent company NBCUniversal may have settled into a dual theatrical windowing strategy for most movies. Some films, such as 2024’s “Drive-Away Dolls,” as well as earlier movies like “M3GAN” and “Cocaine Bear” are getting 49-day windows, while others, like “Night Swim” and “Abigail” took 91 days to reach Peacock after they bowed in theaters.

I think “Twisters” will lean toward the latter category, especially since “Twisters” fits more into the thriller category as “Abigail” and “Night Swim” do, even if it will be decidedly less murder-y. I predict “Twisters” will arrive on Peacock 91 days from its initial release, which will mean it will become available to stream with a subscription on Friday, Oct. 18. Until then, tide yourself over by watching “Twister” on-demand with a subscription to Max!
