Apple TV app adds anime streamer Crunchyroll
The new partnership will allow Apple TV owners to subscribe to Crunchyroll through the device’s app.
The anime streaming service Crunchyroll is set to reach a whole new audience this week. The streamer is rolling out on the Apple TV app, allowing owners of Apple TV 4K devices to subscribe to the service and watch it at home or on the go.
Key Details:
- Have a bite: Crunchyroll is now available on the Apple TV app.
- Big library: Titles like “JUJUTSU KAISEN” and thousands more can be found on Crunchyroll.
- Various plans: Crunchyroll offers three tiers, costing between $10 and $18 per month.
Fans can now sign up for Crunchyroll directly through the Apple TV app, offering access to nearly 25,000 hours of total content, including 50,000 individual episodes. In addition to TV and movies, Crunchyroll offers games, must-have merchandise, and even theatrical releases.
The addition of Crunchyroll to Apple TV comes in time for fans to stream the third season of “JUJUTSU KAISEN,” Season 2 of “Frieren: Beyond Journey's End,” as well as a library full of tens of thousands of episodes from classic and beloved titles.
In its announcement, Crunchyroll cites data from the National Research Group that shows anime fandom rivals that of major pop-culture figures. Nearly 40% of teen anime fans consider anime a meaningful part of who they are, per the data.
Offering the subscription through the Apple TV app allows customers to sign up and centralize their billing. Apple TV also offers subscriptions to other popular streamers like discovery+, HBO Max, Paramount+, and others.
An increase in distribution is good news for Crunchyroll, which is trying to put a cycle of bad news behind it. Last week, the streamer was forced to acknowledge that it had suffered a large breach of customer data that affected millions of customers.
Apple TV
Apple TV (formerly known as Apple TV+) is a subscription video streaming service for $14.99 per month, offering a growing slate of original series, films, documentaries, and specials. Unlike other platforms that combine licensed titles with originals, Apple TV is built entirely around exclusive programming, making it the home of critically acclaimed hits such as “Ted Lasso,” “Severance,” “The Morning Show,” and “Silo.” Its lineup continues to expand with award-winning dramas, comedies, family-friendly shows, and blockbuster original films like “CODA,” which won the Academy Award for Best Picture.
