Documentary+ streaming service aquired by acTVe
New CEO Geoff Clark has vowed to make the service the ‘definitive documentary streaming platform.’
A name like Documentary+ doesn’t leave much room for guessing what kind of content is available on the streaming service it belongs to, but that doesn’t mean there isn’t room for improvement. That was the tone struck by acTVe CEO Geoff Clark after his company acquired Documentary+; Clark says bigger and better things are in store for the service under his leadership.
Key Details:
- We’ll take it: Documentary+ has been acquired by FAST operator acTVe.
- Let’s upgrade: CEO Geoff Clark wants to make Documentary+ the ‘Netflix of documentaries.’
- Subscription plan: Streamers like Curiosity Stream and MagellanTV are also popular among fans of the genre.
As reported by Deadline, the streaming television and free ad-supported streaming TV (FAST) channel operator acTVe has purchased Documentary+. The free, ad-supported streaming service is available in more than 100 million American households, but new CEO Geoff Clark is aiming high in his goals for it.
Clark, who also serves as acTVe CEO, says that it’s his goal to turn Documentary+ into “the definitive documentary streaming platform for global audiences.”
Per the report, Clark has plans for a significant expansion of the Documentary+ library through the acquisition of feature-length titles, docuseries, and short-form content. Some of these titles will be available exclusively on Documentary+, and starting in April, the streamer plans to release one film daily that will only be available on that service.
“Under Clark’s leadership, Documentary+ will evolve into a premium, highly curated destination for documentary storytelling—positioned as the ‘Netflix of documentaries’—while staying true to its core mission: amplifying important stories and championing filmmakers worldwide,” a release about the purchase states.
Viewers can stream Documentary+ on Amazon Fire TV, Apple TV, Roku, Android, and iOS devices, with launches on VIZIO, Samsung, Xbox, and LG planned in the future. The Documentary+ FAST channel can be found on Fubo, MyFree DIRECTV, Plex, Samsung TV Plus, Sling Freestream, and other services. It also has an ad-free subscription tier of its on-demand service available for $5 per month, or $50 per year.
