When will you be able to stream ‘Drop’ with a subscription?

When will you be able to stream ‘Drop’ with a subscription?

The new thriller has gotten fairly good reviews, and releases in theaters this week.

Known for breaking major streaming stories, he’s covered everything from Netflix policy shifts to Peacock’s ad-tier changes. A sci-fi fan and Toshiba Fire TV user, he brings sharp analysis and a love for the genre to his reporting.

The world of dating is hard enough, but Violet’s blind date soon becomes a nightmare that she never imagined facing in “Drop,” the new thriller premiering in theaters on Friday, April 11. We’ll give you more details about the film and let you know when we think you’ll be able to stream it at home below!

Key Details:

  • ➤ Critical darling: “Drop” currently has an 84% on Rotten Tomatoes.
  • ➤ Peacock first: As a Universal-distributed movie, “Drop” will stream first on Peacock.
  • ➤ How long?: A wait of about three months for “Drop” to stream seems likely.

“Drop” follows a young woman named Violet (Meghan Fahy), a widowed mother who has been set up on her first date in years. When she meets Henry (Brandon Sklenar), she’s thrilled, but the evening takes a dark turn when she begins receiving drops on her phone instructing her to follow directions or a hooded figure on her home security camera will kill her young son and the babysitter.

Critics are loving “Drop” so far, as the movie has scored 84% on Rotten Tomatoes as of the time of this writing. Seventy-three percent of audiences that have caught a preview screening agree, so fans of the thriller genre will definitely want to give the movie a try at some point.

When will you be able to stream ‘Drop’ at home?

There’s no mystery as to which streaming service will get “Drop” when the movie becomes available to stream. Since Universal is responsible for distributing it, “Drop” will come to Peacock once it’s no longer a theatrical exclusive and is available to watch with a subscription.

As to when “Drop” will stream on Peacock, I anticipate a bit of a wait. The Key Huy Quan vehicle “Love Hurts” was released more than 60 days ago, but still hasn’t come to Peacock yet. “Wicked: Part 1” spent 120 days in theaters before reaching Peacock, though I don’t think “Drop” will achieve the same level of cultural notoriety that “Wicked” had before even reaching theaters.

I’ll predict that “Drop” will arrive on Peacock starting Friday, July 11, which is 91 days from its original release date. That seems about right for a thriller that appears to have plenty of potential with audiences, though if it’s a runaway hit it could be a little longer before viewers see it on Peacock.
