Back inside Freddy Fazbear’s — what to expect from ‘Five Nights at Freddy’s 2’
The animatronics are on the loose, and the sequel promises even bigger scares.
Horror sequels don’t always get fans this hyped, but “Five Nights at Freddy’s” isn’t just any horror movie. I loved the first one, which turned a creepy video game about haunted animatronics into a full-on box-office smash, pulling in nearly $300 million and proving Blumhouse still knows how to deliver big scares on a small budget. Now, “Five Nights at Freddy’s 2” is cranking things up with even more animatronics, a bigger mystery, and some returning faces we thought were gone for good. Here’s everything we know so far about the sequel.
Everything you need to know about ‘Five Nights at Freddy’s 2’:
When does ‘Five Nights at Freddy’s 2’ come out?
“Five Nights at Freddy’s 2” hits theaters on Friday, Dec. 5, 2025, and this time you’ll have to catch it on the big screen first. Unlike the first movie, which dropped on Peacock the same day as its theatrical release, the sequel is getting a full theatrical run.
As for streaming? Universal hasn’t confirmed anything yet, but most of its movies land on Peacock somewhere between 45 and 120 days after they open in theaters. If it follows the longer end of that window, we’re probably looking at Friday, April 4, 2026. But don’t be surprised if it shows up earlier.
Peacock
Peacock is a subscription video streaming service from NBCUniversal that includes original shows, blockbuster movies, and classic television series. Peacock is home to “Yellowstone,” “The Office,” and original hits like “Poker Face” and “Bel-Air.” You can also watch live sports and NBC programming, including the NFL, MLB, WWE, the Olympics, the Premier League, NASCAR, the French Open, college football and basketball, and the PGA Tour. Premium Plus subscribers can stream their local NBC feed in all 210 markets.
Can you watch ‘Five Nights at Freddy’s 2’ for free once it starts streaming?
Nope, not for free. When “Five Nights at Freddy’s 2” eventually lands on Peacock, you’ll need a paid subscription since there’s no standard free trial right now. The cheapest option is the Select plan at $8 per month, or you can upgrade to Premium for $11 per month or go ad-free with Premium Plus for $17 per month.
Why do we recommend Peacock for watching ‘Five Nights at Freddy’s 2’?
Because it’s probably the first place it’s going to stream after the theatrical run ends. Universal distributes “Five Nights at Freddy’s 2,” and all Universal movies head to Peacock first once they leave theaters. So if you want to catch the sequel right when it hits streaming, this is where you’ll find it.
What is ‘Five Nights at Freddy’s 2’ about?
“Five Nights at Freddy’s 2” picks up a year after the nightmare at Freddy Fazbear’s Pizza. Mike (Josh Hutcherson) is trying to keep life normal for his younger sister, Abby (Piper Rubio), and neither of them talks about what really happened that night. Vanessa (Elizabeth Lail), still recovering from her own trauma, has been helping Mike keep the truth under wraps. But when Abby sneaks out to reconnect with her old animatronic “friends,” things take a dark turn. Her late-night visit sets off a new chain of horrors, uncovering long-buried secrets about where Freddy and the others really came from.
This time, the danger isn’t confined to one haunted pizzeria. The sequel teases a bigger world of animatronic terror, with nearly three times as many creepy creations built by Jim Henson’s Creature Shop. New characters, played by Wayne Knight, McKenna Grace, and Skeet Ulrich, are thrown into the chaos, and even William Afton (Matthew Lillard) seems to find a way back into the story despite his fate in the first film (though I was pretty sure he wasn’t dead!). With more animatronics, more locations, and deeper ties to the game’s lore, this chapter looks like it’s going to be louder, weirder, and way scarier than the first.
Is there a trailer for ‘Five Nights at Freddy’s 2’?
Yes, and it does look like this movie is going to be scarier. Even just based on the found-footage style intro, where a group of kids break into the original “Freddy Fazbear’s Pizza,” this seems like a darker film with more jump scares and way more animatronics on the hunt.
Abby’s talking FazTalker toy glitching out adds a creepy vibe, too, like she’s connected to whatever’s haunting the place. And then there’s the Puppet. Did you see that mysterious gift box that keeps popping up in the footage… practically screaming that it’s hiding something big. I can’t wait to find out.
Who stars in the movie ‘Five Nights at Freddy’s 2’?
The sequel brings back Josh Hutcherson as Mike Schmidt, still dealing with the trauma of his first terrifying run-in at Freddy’s. Elizabeth Lail is back as Vanessa Shelly, the cop trying to protect Mike and his little sister, played by Piper Rubio. Matthew Lillard returns as the creepy William Afton — who also happens to be Vanessa’s serial-killer dad.
The sequel adds some new faces, too. Skeet Ulrich shows up as Henry Emily, one of the original founders of Freddy Fazbear’s Pizza, while Wayne Knight, McKenna Grace, and Teo Briones have roles that are still being kept under wraps.
How can I watch the first ‘Five Nights at Freddy’s’?
The original “Five Nights at Freddy’s” is on STARZ right now, while the sequel will make its streaming debut on Peacock. That’s just how the distribution rights are set up — Universal rotates its movies between different services at different times. The first film already had its run on Peacock and moved over to STARZ, so that’s where you can stream it.
