Texas and Texas Tech fight for title in decisive WCWS Game 3

Texas and Texas Tech fight for title in decisive WCWS Game 3

For the first time since 2019, Oklahoma will not win the Women’s College World Series, but a Texas team will for the first time since since 1987.

With a background in sports and entertainment reporting, he’s covered everything from Broadway to college football. He cut the cord in 2014 and has a sharp eye for streaming trends and a soft spot for Hallmark movies.

In Game 1 of the 2025 NCAA Women’s College World Series Championship Series, the No. 6 Texas Longhorns took a 1-0 lead in the series with a 2-1 victory. However, the following night in Game 2, the No. 12 Texas Tech Red Raiders battled back with a 4-3 win of their own. That means that in the third and decisive game, the winner will take it all, not only officially ending the Oklahoma Sooners’ four-year reign at the top of the sport, but bringing the state of Texas its first softball national title in nearly 40 years. Game 3 of the Champ Series will take place at historic Devon Park at the USA Softball Hall of Fame complex in Oklahoma City on Friday, June 6 at 8 p.m. ET. The game will air on ESPN, and the worldwide leader in sports will also have pregame coverage starting at 7 p.m., and postgame reactions will air on ESPNU. If you are looking for a live TV streaming service to watch the entire series, I recommend taking advantage of the 50% off deal from Sling TV.

Why do we recommend watching the 2025 WCWS Champ Series on Sling TV?

The next two or three days are the pinnacle for college softball fans around the world will be in heaven as two of the most exciting teams in the sport will battle it out for the national title. If you are a die-hard softball fan who can’t miss a single minute of the Champ Series action, then Sling is the best streaming option for you. The streamer is the cheapest way to get all of the ESPN channels covering the WCWS, which is why the service is our No. 1 recommendation.

Normally, Sling costs $46 per month, but you can currently get 50% off your first month of service, meaning that you can watch the Champ Series, the Men’s College World Series, and whatever else you would like over the next month for as little as $23. Sling has two different base packages, Orange and Blue. You can subscribe to one or both. If you do opt to combine Orange and Blue it will run you $61 monthly — still substantially cheaper than the comparable live TV streaming services — but with the first-month deal, you can stream everything on both packages for just $30.50.

ESPN is part of Sling’s Orange base plan, and you can add the streamer’s Sports Extra package to get access to ESPNU.

Can you stream the 2025 Women’s College World Series for free?

If you are just looking for a streaming service to watch one specific game and nothing else, there are options available for you. DIRECTV, Hulu + Live TV, Fubo, and YouTube TV all offer free trials, but they vary in length, so be wary. DIRECTV’s industry-leading trial runs for five days, while Hulu + Live TV’s is a solid three days.

Those are pretty straightforward, but when it comes to the sports-minded streamer Fubo, things can get a little complicated. As The Streamable’s expert David Satin discovered when signing up for the services, figuring out how long Fubo’s trial is — even as you are signing up — can be a bit difficult. Nonetheless, it will be at least one day, with the potential to be as many as seven, depending on a wide range of factors that Fubo does not share publicly.

The YouTube TV trial is said to be “up to two weeks,” but can be as short as two days. So it is difficult to ascertain what you are actually getting before you go through the signup process.

If you are looking to watch the game for free, I would recommend DIRECTV, because that streamer has the longest guaranteed free trial.

About 2025 Women’s College World Series

The Texas Longhorns are back in the Women’s College World Series Championship Series for the second year in a row, and the third time in four years. However, they will not be facing archrival Oklahoma as they have in their previous two Champ Series appearances. The four-time defending champion Sooners were knocked off in dramatic fashion by the Texas Tech Red Raiders, who are led by all-world pitcher NiJaree Canady.

Down 2-0 in the top of the 7th, and down to their final strike, OU’s Abigale Dayton delivered a two-run homer to right center to tie the game, and seemingly swing all of the momentum in the defending champs’ direction. However, in the bottom of the inning, the Red Raiders got back-to-back hits before Mihyla Davis scored on a Lauren Allred sac-fly to win the game and send Texas Tech into the Champ Series.

The battle will mark the first time that two teams from the state of Texas are meeting in the Champ Series, and the first intrastate title matchup since UCLA beat Cal in 2004. The last time a team from Texas won the event was 1987 when Texas A&M took home its second title in five years. Coverage of the entire series will take place ESPN platforms, with pregame coverage and the games themselves airing on ESPN, and then postgame coverage coming to you on ESPNU.

The Voice of Softball Beth Mowins will call the action, with softball legends Jessica Mendoza and Michele Smith joining her in the booth. Holly Rowe will report from the field. Courtney Lyle, Danielle Lawrie, and Madison Shipman will handle the postgame duties on ESPNU with the “7Innings Live: Championship Finals Special”
