Brad Pitt’s high-speed ‘F1 The Movie’ is about to hit streaming
The hit Formula 1 drama makes its streaming debut after a massive theatrical run.
I saw “F1 The Movie” on opening weekend and this thing absolutely rips. And now it’s about to hit Apple TV on Friday, Dec. 12, and I’m already planning a rewatch. Brad Pitt plays Sonny Hayes, a former Formula 1 star who walked away after a brutal crash in the 90s. Now he’s older, a little rougher around the edges, and working the racing circuit for hire when his old teammate Ruben Cervantes, played by Javier Bardem, pulls him back for one final run. If the setup sounds big, the movie feels even bigger. Watching it again at home is going to be a blast. Here’s how to watch “F1 The Movie.”

Everything you need to know about ‘F1’
What time will the movie ‘F1’ become available?
“F1” premieres globally on Friday, Dec. 12 on Apple TV. Apple hasn’t confirmed the exact drop time, but most of its original films and shows usually go live at 12:01 a.m. ET. If you plan to stream right away, expect it to be available first thing that morning.
Can you watch ‘F1’ for free?
Yep. If you’ve never subscribed before, Apple TV offers a seven-day free trial, which is more than enough time to stream “F1” and poke around the rest of the library. Just sign up, watch the movie when it drops, and decide later if you want to keep the service.
Why do we recommend Apple TV for watching ‘F1’?
Because it is the only place you can stream it. “F1” is an Apple TV exclusive, and the platform has made some real noise with original films lately. A subscription costs $13 per month, and everything is ad-free. No tiers to weigh. If you want to watch on release day, this is where to go, and the seven-day free trial is a nice way in if you’re new to the service.
Apple TV
Apple TV (formerly known as Apple TV+) is a subscription video streaming service for $14.99 per month, offering a growing slate of original series, films, documentaries, and specials. Unlike other platforms that combine licensed titles with originals, Apple TV is built entirely around exclusive programming, making it the home of critically acclaimed hits such as “Ted Lasso,” “Severance,” “The Morning Show,” and “Silo.” Its lineup continues to expand with award-winning dramas, comedies, family-friendly shows, and blockbuster original films like “CODA,” which won the Academy Award for Best Picture.

What is the ‘F1’ movie about?
“F1” follows Sonny Hayes, played by Brad Pitt, who used to be the next big thing in Formula 1. Then a nasty crash in the 90s knocked him out of the spotlight and into this drifting, gig-to-gig life on smaller tracks. When his old teammate, Ruben Cervantes, played by Javier Bardem, shows up asking him to come back for one last shot at saving their team, Sonny gets pulled right back into a world that’s totally moved on without him. He gets paired with Joshua Pearce, played by Damson Idris, a hotshot rookie who’s chasing his own legacy and not exactly excited to share anything with a veteran. The movie leans into what redemption looks like when you’ve been running from the same ghost for thirty years.
They shot it during real Grand Prix weekends, so everything feels ridiculously authentic, and the cast shows up firing on all cylinders. Kerry Condon, Tobias Menzies, Kim Bodnia, and Bardem all bring it. You feel the size of the movie right away, but the emotional stuff hits just as hard. It’s a story about ego, second chances, and figuring out how to climb back into the driver’s seat when the thing you love almost took you out. Oh, and it’s awesome.

What other thriller movies can you watch on Apple TV?
If you want to keep the adrenaline going after “F1,” Apple TV has a few solid thriller picks lined up. “Wolfs” pairs George Clooney and Brad Pitt as two fixers stuck on the same job, and the whole thing plays like a slick, fast-moving cat and mouse. “The Instigators” is another fun one, with Matt Damon and Casey Affleck trying to outrun a mess of their own making after a robbery goes sideways. And if you want something a little warmer for the holidays, “The Family Plan 2” brings Mark Wahlberg and his on-screen family back into the mix with a bigger, goofier, more chaotic sequel that still sneaks in some heart. All three are easy watches if you’re looking to stay in the Apple TV lane.
