When will ‘Wicked: Part 1’ be available to stream at home on Peacock?

The new adaptation of the global musical sensation may take a while to hit on-demand streaming.

Wicked Part 1 will stream on Peacock, but when?

How did the Wicked Witch of the West turn into the person she became? Her tragic tale is told in full in “Wicked,” the movie adaptation of the wildly popular stage musical that is ready to bow in theaters. “Wicked: Part 1” officially premieres on Thursday, Nov. 21, and we’ll give our best prediction as to when you’ll be able to stream it at home — and which service will have it!

Key Details:

  • Critics and audiences alike are going wild for “Wicked.”
  • As a Universal-distributed film, “Wicked” will stream on Peacock first.
  • It may be more than 200 days before “Wicked” premieres on the streamer.

Watch the trailer for ‘Wicked: Part 1’:

“Wicked” tells the story of Elphaba, a girl born in the land of Oz whose green skin makes her a target for ostracization. Despite this, she befriends Glinda, a privileged and aristocratic girl from a very different world. The two girls’ friendship is strained as their destinies begin to pull them in different directions, but will they embrace their futures, or fight to keep what they’ve found with each other?

A cast of Cynthia Erivo, Ariana Grande, Jonathan Bailey, Michelle Yeoh, Jeff Goldblum, and Marissa Bode has fans and critics alike buzzing about “Wicked.” It currently sports a 91% rating from the pros on Rotten Tomatoes, and 99% of audiences who have gotten into a preview screening agree the movie is everything they could have hoped for.

When and where will ‘Wicked: Part 1’ stream?

As to the “where” part of this equation, we have an exact answer for you. “Wicked” is being distributed by Universal, which means it will be sent to Peacock once it’s done with its exclusive theatrical run and its period of availability on platforms that allow viewers to purchase or rent movies that are still in theaters, such as Prime Video.

Fans could be in for an extended wait for “Wicked” to arrive. Many times, theatrical windows are partially determined by box office performance. Given the reaction viewers have had to “Wicked” so far, there’s a good chance it will stay in theaters for a while.

Three recent Universal releases have all seen the same 119-day theatrical window: “Trolls Band Together,” “Migration,” and “The Fall Guy.” Oscar contender “Oppenheimer” took even longer to hit Peacock, spending 210 days in theaters and on premium video-on-demand (PVOD) platforms.

I think “Wicked: Part 1” will lean closer to the longer of these two release windows. If it follows “Oppenheimer” precisely and spends 210 days in theaters/on PVOD, “Wicked: Part 1” will arrive on Peacock on Thursday, June 19, 2025. That may seem like a long wait, but it will help get audiences hyped for the release of “Wicked: Part 2” in theaters on Nov. 21, 2025.
