Jake Paul vs Gervonta Davis bout on Netflix canceled

Jake Paul vs Gervonta Davis bout on Netflix canceled

Paul called Davis a ‘nightmare’ to work with in partial explanation for the fight’s cancelation.

Known for breaking major streaming stories, he’s covered everything from Netflix policy shifts to Peacock’s ad-tier changes. A sci-fi fan and Toshiba Fire TV user, he brings sharp analysis and a love for the genre to his reporting.
Jake Paul's boxing match against Tank Davis on Netflix has been canceled.

Fans who were eagerly awaiting Jake Paul’s next walk to the ring will have to keep waiting. The YouTube-star-turned-boxer was scheduled to face Gervonta “Tank” Davis in a bout on Nov. 14 on Netflix, but that fight has been canceled, and Paul has now given an explanation as to why he decided to exit the bout.

Key Details:

  • Throw in the towel: The Paul vs. Davis fight slated for Nov. 14 is canceled.
  • No holding back: Paul called Davis a “walking human piece of garbage” in an Instagram post on Monday.
  • Next for Netflix?: The streamer still has a pair of Black Friday NFL games to look forward to in 2025.

News that the Paul vs. Davis fight was canceled first broke on Monday, but for a few hours, fans were left wondering exactly what the reason behind the decision was. Paul removed that ambiguity from audiences’ minds in an Instagram post on Monday, which explained his decision to nix the fight.

“Gervonta Davis is an actual walking human piece of garbage. Working with him is an absolute nightmare,” Paul said. “The unprofessionalism, the bizarre requests, the showing up hours late to shoots. To the numerous arrests, related accusations, and lawsuits. If you support this man, you support the most vile sin a man can commit.”

Those comments are likely in reference to a civil lawsuit against Davis, in which he is accused of kidnapping and battery by an ex-girlfriend. The statement was made a few hours after Netflix and Paul’s company, Most Valuable Promotions, confirmed that the fight was officially off.

CEO of Most Valuable Promotions, Nakisa Bidarian, says that the plan remains for Jake Paul to headline a Netflix event in 2025. The company doesn’t have much time left in the year to organize a bout for Paul, but the fighter now has a strong relationship with Netflix, and a new fight could come together quickly.

In the meantime, Netflix has NFL games to look forward to, and will host another doubleheader of contests on Christmas Day. The cupboard isn’t exactly bare for Netflix when it comes to marquee sports events, but is now down one major event, as the Paul vs. Davis boxing match will officially not be airing on the streamer on Nov. 14.
