Taylor vs. Serrano 3 coming exclusively to Netflix this summer
Taylor vs. Serrano 3 coming exclusively to Netflix this summer
The boxers step into the spotlight in July, after serving as the co-main event to the Jake Paul vs. Mike Tyson bout in November.
This one’s for all the marbles. Amanda Serrano and Katie Taylor are stepping back into the arena at Madison Square Garden, the site of their first triumphal bout in 2022, for a third match that will only be available to watch via streaming. Their first fight was named Sports Illustrated’s Fight of the Year, and the two are likely to bring that same energy to their newest bout.
Key Details:
- Taylor vs. Serrano 3 is coming to Netflix on July 11.
- The undisputed super lightweight championship will be on the line.
- Nearly 75 million viewers tuned into Taylor vs. Serrano 2 in November.
Taylor vs. Serrano 3 will stream exclusively on Netflix on July 11. Presumably, the fight will be free to stream for all Netflix subscribers, and will not be a pay-per-view that customers have to pay extra money to stream. The night’s festivities will feature an all-female card, the first ever to be staged at the Garden.
Katie Taylor (24–1, 6 KOs) has beaten Amanda Serrano (47–3–1, 31 KOs) in both of their first two bouts, though both fights came down to the scoring, as both boxers were able to go the distance in each fight. The super lightweight championship belt will be on the line once again for Taylor vs. Serrano 3, so Serrano can wipe out the past with one victory in this fight.
“I’m 2-0 against Amanda, but it’s obviously a very special rivalry that delivers every time we step in the ring, so I think it’s only right that we have the trilogy,” Taylor said of the latest rematch.
“Make no mistake, every time we share the ring, it is war, and I know Friday, July 11, will be the greatest yet because I will finally get the official W I deserve,” Serrano said.
Taylor vs. Serrano 2, which was the first fight between the two to stream on Netflix, became the most-watched women’s sporting event in history when it preceded the Jake Paul vs. Mike Tyson fight on the streamer in November. It averaged 74 million viewers globally, and in the United States alone the average minute audience was 47 million.
“This is more than just a fight — it’s a celebration of the unmatched talent of women in boxing,” Jake Paul and Nakisa Bidarian, co-founders of Most Valuable Promotions, told Netflix. “This all-women’s card is not only a testament to how far the sport has come but also the beginning of an even greater push from [Most Valuable Promotions] to elevate the next generation of female fighters.”
The announcement continues to clarify Netflix’s position on live sports. The streamer is no longer completely averse to such programming, but it does want to ensure that any live sports that appear on its platform are major events that command audience attention. Taylor vs. Serrano 3 will certainly fit that bill.
