Will the accolades never cease for “KPop Demon Hunters”? The movie is already the most-watched title over a six-month span in Netflix’s history, and new data from Ampere Analysis indicates tha it has surpassed another impressive milestone: 1 billion viewing hours.

Key Details:

  • Sky’s the limit: “KPop Demon Hunters” has passed 1 billion viewing hours.
  • Less is more: The movie’s success comes at a time when streamers are offering less content for kids.
  • The children shall lead: Data from September found that over 30% of the movie’s audience was under 18.

Per Ampere’s data, “KPop Demon Hunters” has surpassed 1 billion viewing hours on Netflix. The movie was a bit of a phenomenon for Netflix; it reached peak weekly viewing 11 weeks after its release. Most Netflix titles reach peak viewing in their first or second week of availability, then see viewing fall off.

The data from Ampere dovetails with numbers released by Luminate in September. Luminate also found that “KPop Demon Hunters” had a soft premiere, but continued to augment its audience as the weeks went by. Viewership for the film was stronger outside the United States than inside.

Luminate also found that 31% of the “KPop Demon Hunters” audience was under 18, and 50% were under 34. That data might suggest there’s room for streamers to continue adding more content for younger viewers, but Ampere’s data shows that subscription streaming platforms commission fewer titles for kids than any other medium.

Globally, streamers accounted for just 13% of children and family commissions in 2025, versus 47% for public broadcasters. The data clearly indicates that streamers are more interested in adult audiences, despite the fact that 35% of households with children say that having TV shows and movies their kids want is a key subscription motivator.

“The film’s musical core extended its reach beyond the platform and encouraged repeat viewing. Its themes, grounded in the global Korean cultural wave, helped build a highly engaged international fan base,” Ampere research manager Joe Hall said. “With a sequel already announced, ‘KPop Demon Hunters’ shows there is still a lot of value in developing Original IP that appeals across age demographics.”

Netflix’s commitment to storytelling has also earned critical acclaim, with award-winning exclusives such as “Roma,” “Marriage Story,” “The Power of the Dog,” “Mank,” and “Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom.” In 2023, their animated film “Guillermo del Toro’s Pinocchio” won an Academy Award for Best Animated Feature, further solidifying Netflix’s reputation for high-quality content.

Recently, Netflix has expanded beyond standard movies and TV titles with the addition of video podcasts, and is also exploring a digital store that would offer third-party streamers within the app.

Netflix offers three plans – stream on 2 devices in HD with the “Standard with Ads” ($8.99) plan, on 2 devices in HD with the “Standard” ($19.99) plan, and 4 devices in up to 4K on the “Premium” ($26.99) plan.
