‘Married at First Sight’ moving from Lifetime to Peacock
‘Married at First Sight’ moving from Lifetime to Peacock
The unscripted show will be right at home on Peacock, among other reality series like ‘The Traitor.’
Talk about putting the cart before the horse! Fans of the show are likely aware of the off-the-wall premise of the reality series “Married at First Sight,” but for the uninitiated, the reality show features couples who decide to take the plunge and get married the first time they meet in person! The show’s been available on linear TV for almost a decade, but its new season will see it shift to a streamer: NBCUniversal’s platform Peacock.
Key Details:
- “Married at First Sight” formerly aired on Lifetime.
- Season 19 of the show will premiere on Peacock at some point in 2025.
- Reality shows have been a consistent driver of revenue for Peacock.
“Married at First Sight” originally premiered in 2014, and aired on FYI from 2014 through 2016. In 2015, the series also began airing on Lifetime, and it’s been there ever since. However, the show’s run on the beloved cable network appears to be over.
There is no firm release date for “Married at First Sight” on Peacock, but the show will bow its 19th season on the streamer at some point in 2025. Peacock says it landed the series after a “competitive situation,” so it’s possible it wasn’t the only one interested in acquiring the show’s rights.
In each season of “Married at First Sight,” three to five couples are paired up by relationship experts. After getting married, the pairs leave for their honeymoons and live together for eight weeks. Once that period is up, they have to decide whether they’ll stay together, or get divorced.
Data recently released by Parrot Analytics shows that Peacock viewers are huge fans of reality programming like “Married at First Sight.” Series like “Below Deck: Mediterranean” and “The Traitors” bring millions of dollars of revenue to the streamer every year.
Now, they’ll be joined by “Married at First Sight.” Peacock is the perfect fit for the series, and viewers will likely snap up new episodes from Season 19 when they’re released later this year.
