‘Moana 2’ now available for digital rental or purchase
The movie isn’t streaming on Disney+ just yet, but it got one step closer on Tuesday.
The sequel to one of the most popular Disney movies of the last decade is now available to stream at home. “Moana 2,” which was first released in theaters the day before Thanksgiving, is available for digital rental or purchase as of Tuesday, Jan. 28. We’ll let you know where you can pick it up, and when we think it will be available to stream on Disney+ below!
Key Details:
- “Moana 2” is now available on Prime Video, the Apple TV store, Google Play, and Fandango at Home.
- The film costs $25 to rent, or $30 to purchase.
- We still think “Moana 2 ” will be available to stream on Disney+ in March.
“Moana 2” can now be rented or bought on premium video-on-demand (PVOD) platforms. This is an industry term that describes platforms that allow fans to rent or buy movies that are still available in theaters, making them available at home for the first time.
You can rent or buy “Moana 2” on Prime Video. To rent the film will cost $25 in standard, high, or Ultra-High Definition. For $30, however, you can buy the movie and own it outright. “Moana 2” is also available to rent or buy on the Apple TV store, Google Play, or Fandango at Home (formerly Vudu).
The DVD release date for “Moana 2” has also been set. The film will debut on physical home media on March 18. That’s just a few days after I predicted that the movie would begin streaming on Disney+ on March 14; as of now, I don’t see any reason to move off that prediction.
“Moana 2” sees the return of Moana and Maui on a brand-new adventure. When Moana (voiced by Auli’i Cravalho) receives an unexpected call from relatives who long ago made a journey across the seas, Moana sets out for the unknown waters of Oceania — with a little help from Maui (Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson) and her crew! “Moana 2” made over $1 billion at the global box office, and was the third-biggest earner of 2024.
Nielsen recently identified 2016’s “Moana” as the top streaming movie of 2024. It was watched for more than 13 billion minutes in 2024, making it the most-streamed movie of any studio or streamer since 2020.
