The data from Amdocs shows that viewers have come a long way in their willingness to watch Olympic events via streaming since the last summer games. The 2020 Olympics were moved to 2021 thanks to the COVID-19 pandemic, and just 28% of viewers say they streamed the games that year.
That number jumps to 51% that say they’ll watch the Olympics via streaming this year, marking an 82% increase. The results lend more weight to a recent survey from Bango, which showed that 29% of all audiences planned to subscribe to a new streaming service in order to watch the games.
Peacock is ensuring that even the most die-hard fans of the Olympics won't be lacking for coverage this year. The NBCUniversal streamer will offer more than 5,000 total hours of coverage, including all 329 medal events, and provide a multiview option so audiences can stream multiple sports at the same time. “These findings highlight how the evolving landscape of streaming, driven by intense competition and the quest for profitability, is reshaping consumer expectations,” Amdocs’ GM Raman Abrol said. “Viewers now perceive value from their service and content providers through an emphasis on personalized, cost-effective, and immersive experiences.”
