Apple TV drops a surprise ‘Dick Turpin’ episode, despite cancelation
Despite the show’s apparent cancelation, Apple has dropped a new episode of ‘The Completely Made-Up Adventures of Dick Turpin’ without warning.
There’s just no knowing what Dick Turpin is going to do next. That’s the way fans of “The Completely Made-Up Adventures of Dick Turpin” liked it, too, but when the show was seemingly canceled by Apple TV, following the show’s star, Noel Fielding, refusing to return to set, the unpredictable hijinks seemed to be at an end. Turns out, the series has at least one more surprise in store for fans, as Apple TV has released a new episode of “Dick Turpin” without any real fanfare or notice.
Key Details:
- Available now: Fans can now stream the new “Dick Turpin” episode “The Night of the Wearbear.”
- No more Noel: Series star Noel Fielding abandoned the show earlier this year.
- Don’t get your hopes up The series probably still isn’t returning on a regular basis.
Viewers can now head to Apple TV and stream “Dick Turpin” episode 7, dubbed “The Night of the Wearbear.” The episode follows as Dick and his band of misfits attempt to free Hempstead from the terrifying predations of a horrific beast — with predictably hilarious results.
The episode in question is not listed as part of a new season, but is instead tacked onto the carousel for Season 1 in the Apple TV user interface. Episode 6 of “Dick Turpin” Season 1 is still listed as the season finale, so it appears “The Night of the Wearbear” is being presented as a special.
“The Completely Made-Up Adventures of Dick Turpin” debuted to critical acclaim with its first season, and production for Season 2 was well underway when the show’s star, Noel Fielding, reportedly refused to return from a holiday in France, disrupting the production schedule. Eventually, the plug was pulled on Season 2 altogether, and by all appearances, the show was simply canceled.
Apple never made any official announcement that “Dick Turpin” was officially at an end; however, leaving some room for ambiguity about its eventual return. Reports from around the time that Fielding pulled out of the show, citing illness, indicate that the second season was close to complete, and perhaps Apple has decided to release one of those completed episodes that fits with a Halloween theme.
Fans probably shouldn’t expect the series to return on a regular basis, but there is at least this good news to lift their spirits after thinking that “Dick Turpin” was probably never returning in any capacity. You can check out the new episode with a seven-day free trial to Apple TV, or purchase a subscription for $13 per month.
