AI-Generated Al Michaels Voice to Summarize Olympics on Peacock
AI-Generated Al Michaels Voice to Summarize Olympics on Peacock
Michaels was the voice of ‘Sunday Night Football’ on NBC for years, and will now lend that voice to its Olympics coverage…kind of.
Peacock is going all-out to ensure its coverage of the Games of the XXXIII Olympiad this summer draws the attention of audiences. The 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris open on Friday, July 26, and Peacock has already announced an unprecedented level of coverage for the games. But NBC is taking things a step further, and announced today that it would be presenting “Your Daily Olympic Recap on Peacock” each day of the games, and that voiceovers for the recaps would be provided by none other than legendary sportscaster Al Michaels…or at least, an artificial intelligence (AI)-generated version of him.
Key Details:
- The daily recaps will become available on Peacock starting July 27.
- Fans can curate the types of highlights they want to see in the recap each day.
- Peacock will offer a wide array of features for the games, including multiview and a whip-around show each day.

The “Your Daily Olympic Recap on Peacock” feature will begin on July 27, the day after the opening ceremony of the games. It will allow viewers to choose favorite sports and preferred topics to see in the 10-minute video highlight reel of the previous day’s action, and each stack of highlights will be accompanied by the AI-recreated voice of Michaels. A team of editors will check every clip to ensure accuracy and quality.
“When I was approached about this, I was skeptical but obviously curious,” Michaels said in a statement. “Then I saw a demonstration detailing what they had in mind. I said, ‘I’m in.’”
NBC estimates that nearly 7 million different variants of the daily recap could be streamed during the games, as it will present 5,000 hours of coverage total this Olympics. Peacock will stream every single event of the Olympics live, and up to 40 events will happen concurrently each day.

“Peacock continues to introduce unique customer-first features that strengthen our unmatched leadership in live streaming,” said Peacock President Kelly Campbell. “With these recaps alongside interactive elements like Peacock Live Actions and Discovery Multiview, we’re bringing the best of sports together with the best of technology to deliver fans a personalized Olympics experience in a way that’s never been possible before.”
As referenced by Campbell, Peacock will offer a wide range of features to surround the games. For the first time, viewers will be able to watch multiple events at once on Peacock using a multiview, and can also use the Live Actions function to create their own viewing journeys and follow the action wherever it is.
Peacock will also create a whip-around show called “Gold Zone” to take audiences straight to the most intense competition in any given sport each day. The show will be hosted by NFL RedZone veterans Scott Hanson and Andrew Siciliano, as well as Matt Iseman and Akbar Gbajabiamila.
For a limited time, new Peacock customers can sign up for a full year of service for just $30 to watch the Olympics, NFL football, Universal movies and much more. The streamer is offering a highly personalized experience for watching the Olympics this year, aided in part by A.I. Al.
