Peacock expands availability of Dolby visual and audio features
With the new partnership, Peacock will be the first streaming platform to fully embrace Dolby’s full suite of picture and sound tech.
The addition of a new TV show or movie to a streaming service isn’t the only way for that service to entice customers. Key tech improvements are also music to a subscriber’s ears when they are made, and Peacock had just such an announcement for its customers on Monday evening. The streamer revealed that it will roll out Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos for more of its content in 2026, and will also support new Dolby products when they become available later this year.
Key Details:
- Next-level sports: Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos are launching for Peacock sports events this year.
- Next generation: Peacock is the first streamer to announce support for the forthcoming Dolby Vision 2.
- Can you hear me?: Dolby’s new audio codec AC-4 will also roll out on Peacock in 2026.
Although Peacock already offers Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos with a selection of its on-demand titles, the streamer has not extended those features to live sports — until now. Peacock will be rolling out Dolby Atmos and Dolby Vision capabilities alongside live sports events, including NFL, NBA, and MLB games throughout 2026.
In addition, Peacock announced on Monday that it would support Dolby Vision 2 when it launches. It’s the first streaming platform to make such an announcement, and it means that Peacock will deliver a supremely high picture quality experience when the rollout commences.
“We deliver the most compelling content with the highest quality experience and unparalleled reliability on Peacock,” NBCUniversal executive David Bohunek said. “Our partnership with Dolby ensures that whether our subscribers are streaming a thrilling playoff game, the latest Universal blockbuster, or a critically acclaimed Peacock Original, they’re experiencing it exactly as creators intended – with breathtaking picture and immersive sound that brings every moment to life.”
Finally, Peacock and Dolby announced that the streamer would also adopt Dolby’s new AC-4 audio codec when it launches. This will deliver crystal-clear sound with up to 50% greater efficiency than traditional codecs, according to Dolby, upping the sound quality of streaming on Peacock even further when it becomes available.
“Peacock is raising the bar for what streaming entertainment can be with Dolby,” Dolby SVP John Couling said. “This partnership reflects our vision to push the boundaries of live sports and entertainment, delivering experiences that truly stand apart. With Dolby, Peacock stands as the premier destination for viewers who expect nothing less than exceptional entertainment at home.”
