Walmart+ service adds free Peacock subscription option
Walmart+ service adds free Peacock subscription option
Customers will not, unfortunately, get both Paramount+ and Peacock free at the same time.
The Walmart+ subscription service is turning five years old. The service comes with a good selection of benefits, such as free same-day delivery on groceries, free shipping, and plenty of other discounts. Customers also get streaming benefits with Walmart+; the service already offered a free subscription to Paramount+ Essential, and now it’s adding the ability to choose a Peacock Premium account as well.
Key Details:
- Later this month: Walmart+ will welcome Peacock on Sept. 15.
- One or the other: Customers have to pick either Peacock or Paramount+, but they can switch between.
- Join up!: Peacock also recently joined the Prime Video Subscriptions marketplace.
According to Lucas Manfredi of The Wrap, Peacock’s ad-supported Premium tier will launch as an option for Walmart+ customers starting Sept. 15. The cost of a Walmart+ subscription is not expected to rise past its current level of $13 per month or $98 per year.
Peacock will join Paramount+'s ad-supported Essential plan as the two streaming benefits viewers get to pick from when signing up for a Walmart+ subscription. Customers will not be able to get Paramount+ and Peacock both free with a Walmart+ subscription, but will be able to switch between the two streamers once every 90 days.
“The additional option of Peacock Premium adds even more value and more choice to our membership, without raising the price,” Walmart+ SVP Deepak Maini said. “By offering the ability to switch between two top-tier video streaming services, we’re empowering our members to customize their entertainment experience and enjoy significant savings. This is just one of the many ways we’re evolving Walmart+ to meet the needs and wants of today’s consumer.”
Peacock is becoming available in a growing number of distribution platforms. In addition to this Walmart+ agreement, Peacock also recently struck a deal with Amazon to become available on the Prime Video Subscriptions store, opening a new distribution method for its ad-free Premium+ subscription. Peacock now has 41 million subscribers, and is clearly angling for ways to add more to that total.
“This expanded partnership strengthens our collaboration across the NBCUniversal enterprise with Walmart and gives Walmart+ members seamless access to the wide variety of Peacock’s entertainment offering,” NBCUniversal executive Matt Schnaars said. “Whether it’s live sports like the upcoming NBA season, Sunday Night Football, Emmy-winning reality series like ‘The Traitors,’ original series including ‘The Paper,’ or blockbuster films, Peacock has something for everyone.”
