Peacock to launch start-up ads.

NBCUniversal is gearing up for the 2026 Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas and has already teased a highly consequential update for users of its streaming service Peacock. As announced on Wednesday, Peacock will soon begin showing advertisements to customers as soon as they open the streaming service’s app.

Key Details:

  • Warm welcome?: Peacock will begin showing Arrival Ads when customers open the app.
  • Painting a picture: One NBCU executive called the space a “beautiful canvas” for advertising.
  • Example followed: Roku first began experimenting with start-up ads in early 2025.

Peacock calls its new start-up commercial program “Arrival Ads,” and explained on Wednesday that it sees them as a huge win for advertisers. Arrival Ads are just one of the advertising innovations NBCU unveiled this week, as it turns its attention to boosting revenue for 2026.

“This is truly the front door for Peacock,” NBCU ad executive Alison Levin said. “It’s not just this massive, massive reach of being the front door, but it also is this beautiful canvas that we can really create with our partners.”

Leaders from the company said that significant investments in live sports and other content for both NBC and Peacock are leading it to think creatively about new ways to offer advertisements. That may be music to the ears of ad execs, but it will likely prove small comfort to Peacock subscribers who are forced to sit through a commercial to start streaming on the app.

NBCU isn’t the first company to experiment with start-up ads. In March, Roku began testing its own version of start-up ads on its devices, a move that immediately tested the patience of Roku owners. Now, Peacock is following a similar result, and subscribers will likely be comparatively angry.
