Philo vs. Fubo: Which streams all the live TV you need?

Philo vs. Fubo: Which streams all the live TV you need?

Philo is small and specific; Fubo is loaded with channels and sports — here’s everything else to consider.

A TV critic since the 4:3 era, he brings decades of experience and sharp analysis to The Streamable. When he’s not writing, he’s playing his Flying V guitar at local bars.

They might not have the largest subscriber bases in the live TV streaming industry, but Philo and Fubo have plenty to offer for different audiences. One focuses strictly on entertainment and omits sports and local channels, while the other is a sports-first streamer, missing several popular entertainment channels. There’s also the matter of channel volume: One carries a slim 70-channel lineup; the other features nearly 300.

If you’re considering Philo or Fubo as your live TV streaming service, there’s a lot more to look into before you pull the subscription trigger. We’ve compiled all the info you’ll need to get the channels and features you want.

Philo vs. Fubo: Which is right for you?

Channels 70 212–293

Price

Philo is one of the least expensive live TV streaming services available — only Frndly TV, a super-skinny bundle that carries just 40 channels, is cheaper. Philo features 70 channels, including popular cable staples like Paramount Network, AMC, and HGTV. However, its $28-per-month price tag is made possible by excluding sports and local channels — Philo is far from being an all-around crowd-pleaser.

On the other end of the streaming spectrum, Fubo has a history of changing its subscription offerings regularly, so it would behoove you to always check with the streamer’s website to see which selection of base packages it has available at any given time. As of the time of this article’s writing, the sports-focused streamer offers three different monthly plans: Essential (212 channels for $85 per month), Pro (212 channels for $85 per month), and Elite (293 channels for $95 per month). Fubo’s channel counts vary by area, but they’re still eye-poppingly high, as are the prices.

Overall Channels

Obviously, Fubo offers way more channels than Philo, including sports and local channels. But there are significant holes in its channel lineup — you won’t find TNT, TBS, CNN, A&E, History, Lifetime, or AMC on Fubo, just to name a few. You will, however, find more sports channels than you could probably ever watch, including regional sports networks (RSNs), college sports channels, and plenty of international soccer.

Sports and local channel carriage is pricey, so Philo keeps it cheap by not even bothering with them. Philo is all about entertainment, reality TV shows, movies, and nothing else. If you couldn’t care less about sports or local TV, Philo carries comfort food channels like A&E, Hallmark, and Food Network. When you invite friends over to watch this weekend’s “games,” you’d probably want to warn them that you mean “Guy’s Grocery Games.”

Local Channels

Fubo carries local affiliate stations for ABC, CBS, Fox, NBC, The CW, and Telemundo in most regions of the country. But if you want PBS and PBS Kids, you’d want to invest in an over-the-air digital antenna or a PBS Passport streaming subscription for around $5 per month.

Philo carries no local channels.

Sports Channels

Pro Sports Channels

Fubo is a sports-forward streamer, especially if you’re a fan of soccer (or fútbol). In addition to ESPN, FS1, and CBS Sports Network, Fubo also carries a full slate of beIN Sports channels and RSNs that cover 98% of the country. But, NBA, NHL, and MLB fans should note the absence of channels like TNT, TBS, and truTV, none of which are on Fubo.

There are also six sports add-on channels available with Fubo, including International Sports Plus (international soccer and more for $7 per month), Sports Plus with NFL RedZone (RedZone and NCAA games for $11 per month), and Adventure Plus (racing and extreme sports for $5 per month). [NBA League] Pass and MLB.TV can also be subscribed to through Fubo.

With the slim exception of the auto-centric MotorTrend Network, Philo carries no pro sports channels.

College Sports Channels

Fubo carries some college sports channels, including Big Ten Network and SEC Network. To get ESPNU and ACC Network, though, you’d need Fubo’s Sports Plus add-on channel pack.

Philo carries no college sports channels, either.

Regional Sports Channels

Fubo is big on RSNs, including NBC Sports Boston, NESN, Chicago Sports Network, Marquee Sports Network, SportsNet Pittsburgh, FanDuel Sports Network channels, and Space City Home Network. AT&T SportsNet and Spectrum Sports RSNs aren’t available on Fubo.

Philo — as you’ve probably gathered by now — carries no regional sports networks.

Included Features

On-Demand Library

Both Philo and Fubo make TV shows and movies from their channel lineups available on-demand, mostly with unskippable ads. Additionally, Philo offers on-demand AMC+ TV shows and movies from AMC, IFC, Shudder, Sundance Now, and “The Walking Dead” universe.

Add-On Channel Packages

Philo features a handful of add-on channels: ALLBLK, AMC+, Hallmark+, MGM+, and STARZ, which is the most expensive of the bunch at $11 per month. Keeping things cheap, Philo’s $3-per-month Movies & More package includes niche channels HDNet Movies, REELZ, Sony Movies, FMC, Movies!, and Fandor.

Fubo offers Paramount+ with Showtime, STARZ, and MGM+ individually or as a discounted bundle for $19.99 monthly. Fox Nation, Hallmark+, TV5MONDE (French sports and entertainment), and RAI Italia (Italian sports and entertainment) add-ons are also available

In addition to Sports Plus, Fubo’s add-on channel packs include Fubo Extra and News Plus (both included with Fubo’s Elite plan), as well as Fubo Select (movies and documentaries) and five Spanish and Portuguese-language packages.

DVR

Philo may not have a lot of channels, but it will let you record to your heart’s content with unlimited cloud DVR storage that will keep your saved TV shows and movies for up to a full year, the longest of any live TV streaming service. Fubo’s DVR is also unlimited, but it will only store your recordings for nine months before auto-deletion.

Simultaneous Streams and 4K

Philo gives you three simultaneous streams, the same as most live TV streamers. Fubo offers a generous 10 simultaneous streams within a home network for TVs, smartphones, tablets, and laptops.

Fubo offers 4K high-def streaming from certain channels if your streaming device and TV support it. Philo doesn’t do 4K at all, another way of keeping costs down.

Which is right for you?

If you’ve ever thought, “Who needs these sports channels? All I need is ‘Property Brothers,’ ‘Chopped,’ ‘Ancient Aliens,’ and Hallmark Christmas movies in August,” then Philo is the live TV streaming service of your cord-cutting dreams — for under $30 per month, no less. It doesn’t give you everything, which is the point.

Fubo is more in line with full-service live streamers like YouTube TV and Hulu + Live TV, with loaded, wide-appeal channel lineups that have something for everybody. Well, maybe not everybody: Fubo may be bursting with sports, including international soccer, but its lack of big channels like A&E, History, Lifetime, AMC, TNT, TBS, and CNN is tough to overlook. A potential merger with Hulu + Live TV might solve this, but right now, Fubo isn’t quite the full package on its own.

  • Philo

Philo is a live TV streaming service designed for entertainment lovers, offering flexible ways to watch without the high price of traditional TV bundles. The service now features two paid plans — Essential and Bundle+ — alongside its existing free streaming offering, giving customers a range of options depending on how much live and premium content they want.

    …

The Essential plan costs $25 per month and includes 70+ live TV channels focused on entertainment and lifestyle programming, such as AMC, HGTV, Hallmark Channel, Nickelodeon, and Food Network. Subscribers also get access to 120+ free streaming channels, more than 80,000 movies and shows on demand, and unlimited DVR with one-year storage. Essential also includes a 7-day free trial for new customers.

For viewers who want more premium content, Philo offers the Bundle+ plan for $33 per month (formerly the Philo Core plan). Bundle+ includes everything in Essential, plus ad-supported AMC+ and access to the HBO Max (Basic with Ads) app. Users can also access discovery+ content directly within the Philo app. While Bundle+ adds a full premium streaming bundle for just $8 more per month, it does not include a free trial.

The service is available on most major devices, including Roku, Fire TV, Apple TV, smart TVs, mobile devices, and web browsers. In addition to its paid plans, Philo also offers a free ad-supported streaming experience, allowing users to explore content before deciding whether to upgrade to a live TV subscription.

While it doesn’t include local broadcast stations or sports networks like ESPN, FS1 or NBC Sports Network, Philo remains one of the most affordable live TV streaming options for entertainment-focused viewers. With a simple lineup, generous DVR storage, and a clear path from free streaming to live TV and premium bundles, Philo is an appealing choice for cord-cutters who want to keep costs down while still enjoying a wide range of popular programming.

  • Fubo

Fubo is a live TV streaming service offering a robust lineup of approximately 150 premier channels, with plans starting at $63.99 per month. This entry-level package provides access to local broadcast affiliates 18 of the leading 35 cable channels channels, and valuable regional sports networks (RSNs).

    …

For many other sports enthusiasts, particularly those who prioritize access to local sports broadcasts, Fubo is a compelling choice in our view. Featuring FanDuel Sports RSNs in its channel lineup, Fubo stands out as the most budget-friendly option for RSN access across numerous markets, including Altitude, AT&T Sports, Fox Sports, Marquee, MSG, NBC Sports, and NESN. (Explore the comprehensive list of Fubo’s sports channels.) Fubo recently launched an add-on to their sports package, allowing subscribers access to local RSNs as well.

In September 2025, Fubo also launched its Sports package for $45.99 per month, featuring a variety of sports-oriented channels including ABC, CBS and FOX affiliates (in select markets) as well as ACC Network, Big 10 Network, CBS Sports Network, ESPN, ESPN2, ESPNews, ESPNU, Fox News, FS1, FS2, Fubo Sports Network, ION, NFL Network, SEC Network and Tennis Channel.

Fubo further enriches its sports offerings by including MLB Network, NBA TV, NFL Network, NFL RedZone , NHL Network and beIN Sports (a channel not commonly found on competing services). For expanded soccer coverage, you can opt for Fox Soccer Plus via the International Sports Plus add-on for an additional $7/month.

Additionally, you have the option to enhance your channel variety with the Fubo Extra ($8), which incorporates approximately ~38 channels more channels, featuring popular selections like GSN.
